Are Iso's Legal if I have the original game

Let's say I own .hack//gu( which I do) and I want to play it on my computer. However, I do not have a dvd drive, so I download a second copy off isohunters or some other site. Is it still legal since I still own the original copy of the game?

i think it's illegal. you must burn your own copy not to download someone else copy(it's piracy) IMHO.

Even if I have the original? If that's the case, then I'll just stay legal and not download.

If you own the CD/DVD then make the ISO yourself. You are allowed one "archival" (read: backup) copy of CDs and DVDs as long as you retain ownership of the original CD/DVD.

Downloading an ISO of any kind, regardless of owning the original media, is illegal.

Its different in other countries.

here in germany its extreme:
its not even allowed to make private copies from your own game that you have bought when the disk have a copy protection.

Buy an DVD drive, its very cheap. ~15EUR (19$) here.

Since the guy who asked the question is located in the US I thought I'd quote US Law. Plus: most other copyright laws (I would suspect) follow the US model.

It is illegal to download the copy in the first place, so yes, it is illegal regardless of other factors. If you don't like it you should have voted for a different representative

It would be perfectly legal to use a friends DVD drive though. Also, DVD drives are pretty cheap these days.

I dont think its illegal to actually download a copy, but bear in mind its 100% illegal to upload said file. So if you use bittorrent then thats illegal

imo go buy a dvddrive cheap enough option and you dont have to worry no more

Come to the Netherlands

Seriously man, it's obvious you simply shouldn't care about it being legal or not, it's about showing appreciation to the developer. If you have bought the game, I personally don't care what you do.

Just don't ask us to find your isos because you're not going to be helped with it.

On the offhand .hack//GU is not a PC game and you won't be able to get it to be fully playable with PCSX2.
