Chinese Characters = Tattoo
The brother of a friend of mine got a tattoo recently ... consisting of a few Chinese characters/symbols. Which he believed said "Emir" (his name). He later found out that "Emir" is not what it says, but we couldn't figure out what it really meant either. Any of you folks can tell use what the tattoo says ?

Don't worry it's not anything embarrassing either, the first two means either good health or strong and healthy, the third character isn't even exist, without the third character the forth just means flowing, I think the artist wanted to write something he found on some takeout order.
I hope you can get a refund for the tattoo and proceed to sue the artist. edit: I was going to add the word OWNED! into the picture but I feel nice this Christmas. Last edited by Player-X; December 25th, 2006 at 02:32. |

Hmmm... the third character looks like 必 to me, in that calligraphy style.
功康必流 When four words are put together, it is not an idiom and it makes no sense, but if we break them up: 功: like Player-X said, it means "strength", but it also has a side meaning being "merits". 康: Health, Healthy 必: Must 流: Flow, now flows here could have 2 meanings, Flowing, could be that you have unlimited strength and health flowing out all time. On the other hand, it also indicates that you have them flowing out and you are losing them. Now I am sorry to say this, as a native Chinese speaker, I think it means the latter but meh, you can always look at the brighter side. Anyway, the above are only my own opinion and analysis.

The words ouch and 1-2 years of laser skin surgery come to mind.
Thats why you have pictures, not foreign words tattooed on your skin. Don't get me wrong I like Chinese writing, like any other naive person who doesn't understand the language. But I would of made double sure what the words meant before getting the tattooed forever on my skin.

There is the story that a woman saw some words at a Chinese shop when on vacation and took a picture and then went back to her home country and got a tattoo artist who didn't understand Chinese to write it on her back, the words translates as "cheap and beautiful".

Just goes to show about these idiots who put something they can't understand onto their skin. And usually Chinese/Japanese characters as well. I mean, you don't see anyone running to get Russian Cyrillic put onto their skins.

Then you haven't seen the Dirty Sanchaz movie lol.
This it what I mean ouch. Takes ages 2 get stuff off via laser, not to mention more painful than the tattoo. I knew someone who a big birthmark on her face it took 1 year of laser surgery, to get it off.
