Thompson bullies Take-Two

Quote:
Thompson bullies Take-Two

The fictional Spanish peasant Don Quixote became convinced that he was really a heroic medieval knight, and set forth to valiantly attack evil giants, which were in fact merely windmills. One modern-day counterpart comes in the form of the very real Jack Thompson, who continues his crusade against the video game industry with a lawsuit filed today against WalMart, Take-Two Interactive, Software Inc., and GameStop.
The suit filed in the Eleventh Judicial Circuit in Miami-Dade County, Florida requests a temporary restraining order against the sale of Bully, a controversial new title from Rockstar Games (distributed by Take-Two) where the player controls a schoolyard bully. The mere announcement of the title had Thompson up in arms. Last month, he demanded that the studio furnish him with a prerelease copy of the game for his own personal analysis. Evidently Take-Two ignored these demands, and so Thompson is taking the next step by requesting a a restraining order against the sale of Bully to minors.
The motion's wording is a bit strange, as games already have a ratings system in place that decides whether or not minors should be allowed to purchased them. The ESRB rating system has its detractors, but attempts to enact additional laws on top of the existing system have already failed legal challenges in places such as Michigan, California, and Illinois.
As for the game itself, early looks show it to be somewhat less of a Columbine simulator, and more of a traditional revenge theme involving a bullied student getting even against his former tormentors. No doubt the game will generate controversy—and sales—but it does not appear to be foretelling the end of Western civilization. Nevertheless, Thompson is convinced that the game must be stopped. Thompson has also charged Take-Two with orchestrating "a new wave of successfully orchestrated harassment" in the wake of his earlier demands to see a prerelease copy.
The motion is scheduled to be heard in a Dade County courtroom on Wednesday, October 11, 2006.
Don Quixote would be proud

Isn't it ironic? It seems that he is bullying Rockstar and Take-Two.

The GTA games have really corrupted my mind and now I have this uncontrollable urge to have sex with Jack Thompson in a car and then kill him and get my money back.
