Lawsuit: Video Game Led To Killings On Sam Donaldson Ranch

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- Family members of three people slain by a teenage boy on Sam Donaldson's New Mexico ranch filed a lawsuit on Monday claiming the video game "Grand Theft Auto: Vice City" contributed to the shootings.The $600 million suit filed in Albquerque names several companies and Cody Posey, the teen who was convicted in the July 2004 deaths.Posey admitted to shooting and killing his father Delbert Paul Posey and stepmother Tryone Posey along with a stepsister in 2004. He was sentenced earlier this year to state custody until he is 21.
During the trial, prosecutors described Posey as a ruthless killer. But defense lawyers claimed the teen was subject to years of abuse by his father, and that the killings were committed in self-defense.But the wrongful death suit blames "Grand Theft Auto: Vice City," claiming that Posey played it "obsessively" for several months before the killings.According to the suit, plaintiffs' lawyer Jack Thompson was told by a sheriff's deputy that the game and a Sony Playstation 2 were found at the ranch.The suit filed is against Posey himself, Sony Corporation of America, Take-Two Interactive Software and Rockstar Games.Paul Posey's brother Verlin hopes the suit will save lives."If doing this can stop one person killing or one family going through the hell we've been through, then it's worth it," Verlin Posey said.Action 7 News left a message with Sony Entertainment regarding the case, but have yet to hear back from them.

well considering its new mexico it was probably released a week ago, as people there dont hear from the rest of the world too often. and playing gta and being beaten by your father is supposed to get you a free pass? pfft, our legal system blows dead owls for even hearing that argument. oooo a playstation 2 and the game were found! whoopie ****in doo. these dupes probably went into the ranch and spun around blindfolded and whatever they pointed to when they stopped was "evidence". and why doesnt it surprise me thompson is involved

good point. with all those airplane and driving sims you dont see any pilots or racecar drivers crediting their ability to those games.

I just found an article over at joystiq, where someone by the name of Jack Thompson Posted, another person verified that the email used to register was Jack Thompson.

hmmm. im having a difficult time believing that was actually him saying that, as it is quite easy to pose as someone on the net without people realizing it. however if that IS jack saying that, i have lost all of what little respect for him as a compromising adult i had, i dont mind hearing his point as long as he listins to mine, however with this guy its his way or the highway, everyone else is wrong i would be willing to sit and chat in a debate with him over this issue in an ADULT manner, but if this is the way he acts and sees the world and the worlds opinions then it isnt even worth my time, i would end up smashing his teeth in if i had to be a subject of his ignorance. i cant imaging someone being that narrow minded, its one thing to protest videogames and the media, but outright harrassing and name calling is rather juvinile for a man his age. i think alot of his standpoints come from the basis of him being a "conservitive christian", if he was say, an athiest, i doubt his opinions and arguments surrounding this debate would be much less harsh and destructive. now i dont have a problem with any religion whatsoever if it doesnt harm anyone, as im catholic, but he isnt crafting his own opinion, what your hearing from him is the standpoint you would probably get from highly religious people, it isnt HIS opinion, its whatever off-shoot of christianity he belongs to's opinion. i think if we really want to resolve issues like this we need to step out of the box and think with our own minds for a change rather than hiding behind a pre determined position in politics and morals.

and last, about bully statement "he" made, i think its about time he woke up and realized that those methods of bullying are a thing of the past, now we have cyber bullying and more commonly name calling. not once in my school years did i see or hear of anyone getting a swirly or tieing their shoes together. unless bully simulates cyber bullying and stuff like that, this leaves his argument dead in the water.
