Custom Windows sounds

Didn't know where to put this thread.

What are you starting and ending sounds in windows?
I normally have my speakers turned off but i got a new laptop and i decided to use the sound of the Twin Snakes (when Snake loses) when i turn it off.
I still don't know what to use when i start it up.
I was thinking of asking one of my female friends to record his voice with a sensual tone saying: Hi, do you want to use me again?
Well, you have to take into account i'm an irreverent lawyer who doesn't care what other people think about him

What do you use for your turn on/off windows sounds?

Obsolute silence, not a sound to be heard, I utterly hate startup, shutdown, alert and all those other misc sounds. Guy I used to know had a sound for everything, from wacko booms and clicks for window openning to the most gowd aweful laugh everytime he emptied the recycle bin (he din't know the concept of shift+del)...

I can think of better things to 'customise' my experience

I turn mine off. I find it annoying and I'm sure it's a little easier on the computer not having to load all of those wave files and keep them in memory.

Holy words there CK, holy words . I never had any of that crap on my PC. I also switched off the alerts as what's the point of hearing it when you see it anyway? ( ) (and i "jumped" a few times the speakers where put on load ) Pointless IMHO.

I'm for default, I don't know why people seek to make navigating around the windows ui entertaining. I'd turn it off but I sort of use the sounds to monitor if the sound is still working or not.

first off the audio files you want to use, they need to be in wav. format i think.if your using winxp, go to start>control panel>sound and audio>change/edit sound scheme (its at the top, there are 3 options i think its the2nd one down in the audio panel). then you have the ability to mod the sounds that play when certain things happen in windows (for example when my recycle bin gets emptied, i have arnold say "hasta la vista baby") you need to browse through your files and link the directory your sound file is at with the corresponding profile (i.e. windows logoff, system error, shutdown, startup)
