Lego Pinball

What else can I say? I'm just awed by this.

If there're other Lego freaks here, catch the news at:

http://www.pinballnews.com/news/lego.html

/me needs a bunch of 50-cent Euro coin, and a trip to the Netherlands

Wow, now that's really amazing.

And when reading your post I got some creepy chills when I saw you writing down '50-cent' hehe. I'm glad it was about the coins.

DO NOT GO TO THIS SITE! It has a great article but infect my computer with about 3 trojans. Even though I was running firefox without activex. Do not go to the site people. Still attempting to remove em.

edit: Finally got them to be removed. I had to delete mssearchnet.exe, winzzc32.dll, vcctrl.exe, dxmpp.dll, wcpcc.exe, oins.exe, dfrgsrv.exe, ncompat.tlb from win/system32 using a dos bootdisk.

that's kind of like saying "Installing Windows 98 blew up my monitor".....I checked the page's source code, and nothing suspicious was there (just some javascript code to give extra effects to the images, and basic HTML code for the text). It had to be another one of your programs that ran in the background.

Obviously, the ball itself couldn't be made from lego blocks and a regular 1 1/16" steel pinball was just too heavy for the Lego motors, so a 1" glass ball was used as the main playing ball and a regular steel ball was used for the tilt mechanism. But the rest of the game is 99.99% pure Lego.
that was the first thing I thought of before I clicked on the link Making a lego ball would be possible with the right joints, but I can see where the little ridges on top could cause the ball to move strangely

Not to sound nerdy (is nerdy the right word? Maybe dorky), although it's not technically LEGO, there are "Zamor Spheres" included in some of the new Bionicle sets, which are perfect spheres. Not sure how big they are.

I want to make one of those, but I don't have enough flat/special pieces. :cuss2:

I see nothing wrong with it. Neither does Steve Jackson, who posted the link in his newsletter.

It must be all the pr0n sites you've been accessing as of late

Proud of my own country, somehow that feels wrong to me, it's got its good sides, and I'm glad that I was born and raised here, but when I watch the news and see a big fuzz over how one shot down a sparrow, I want to hide away in shame for the international community.

/Cid looks at Boltzmann's sig

The Lego business must have had a decline in sells lately

Yep, I was just kidding. In fact, I think that the whole "being proud of your country" stuff is BS (/me hides from the patriots of all countries). There're some things that make us proud, and some that make us ashamed. No country is exempt from that.

Well I don't know then cause I was surfing that site (and nope had no other windows or tab, what-so-ever were open at the time) and then about halfway dowwn the page... VIRUS DETECTED... said my AVG free. So I say delete and then all hell broke loose. Stuff started poping up and installing and within about 30 seconds my P.C. had automagically shut itself off. I was kinda confused cause the site looked pretty reputable to me. Needless to say I'm not risking it again. BTW: did the site have a webbanner? Maybe that got me somehow?

On a different note "THAT TABLE ROCKED". From what I read of the article I would have loved to see it in action. I wonder how to got the score and lights to work?

Nope, no banner. The problem must be in your computer, since nobody else is complaining (and run Symantec Antivirus here at work and nothing was detected).

It surely was quite complicated:

"In total, the game used over 100 metres of wire, 13 RCX units, 8 light sensors, 13 rotation sensors, 18 touch sensors and 24 motors, all of which took over 300 hours to assemble."

BTW, I HAVE to buy a LEGO Mindstorms kit

I think Scots are exempt there, seeing as how we invented practically everything in the world.

As for Lego, i remember I wanted to get the computer stuff for it when I was a kid growing up with the stuff. My proudest achievement was building a small lego city (complete with 4 foot skyscrapers) in my room when I was 8. But I'm taking a small guess that my achievement has been trumped by the Dutch. For some reason now I have an incredible urge to play MS Pinball.

it's sad why you know that....but we're talking about the regular square legos here...that Bionicle crap is nothing but a gimmick, cause nothing made out of that set is made out of true legos...

but even if the pinball was made out of real legos, I still don't think they could of used it. The ball needs mass in order to have the plungers detect hits, and odviously, legos are very light. even if that wasn't the case, hitting the ball with the flipper would of caused the pinball to shoot up to the top of the table (high force + low mass = FAST) possibly causing it to break.

I agree.

...TECHNIC pieces always sucked, in my opinion, I just know from surfing the web.

I'm with Kirby here, I love the original Lego stuff, the simple bricks that encouraged to be creative, not those Playmobil-like Bionicle action figures.

depends on how much a circuit board, a few LED lights, and thousands of legos would cost

BTW, the Bionicle sets are crap, but the original Lego Mindstorms are cool, and Mindstorms NXT looks quite promising.

Programming Lego robots is only for hardcore geeks or small kids
