i noticed that a while back and had a good laugh.

Of course, I never get spam on any of my mail accounts (don't ask me how, I don't know), so I never have a reason to go there.

I have been receiving a serious load of spam lately. Of course they go straight to the Spam folder in Gmail (well, sometimes one or another do slip through), but this is still disturbing to know my e-mail address has been so much disseminated -- or else I don't know how the hell do they estimate random e-mails addresses.

n00b question: Is there any way to tell Gmail just to delete your spam instantly?

As for it, since January I've noticed the volume of spam received go through the roof. I've had to stop using Yahoo because of it.

Not that I know of. I've searched an option like this too. Sometimes I'm too paranoid, so I don't like to see that I have "XX" number of new spam mails even when they're shown in the Spam folder, so everytime I log in I go clean them. It's annoying.

I like to have everything in order. Plus it's annoying as hell going to delete spam when you're in university.

Use a mail client (outlook, thunderbird) and set it to delete spam after you close the program. If you're that confident, it'll only keep spam until you close out the program. I've got mine set to delete after 7 days, because sometimes I don't notice.

why is Gmail so popular, I find Yahoo! Mail and its other services quite "better." They might not be "better" but I like to use it.

totally personal preference. i bet there are people saying "why is Yahoo mail so popular, i like Gmail!". right?

i use both Yahoo mail (well, SBC yahoo) and gmail, and neither of them through their web interface, so it doesnt matter much to me.
