What Happened to Halloween

It seems like Halloween is losing its appeal now days. I can remember growing up and getting excited about going trick-or-treating. I'm too old to do that now, of course, but it interesting that I hardly ever see kids trick-or-treating. Not that I want them banging at my door, but it's just an observation. I used to hear about a lot of Halloween parties too, but there don't seem to be to be a lot of those anymore either.

Does anyone here dress up for fun or parties?

Kids these days are bitter and jaded, and in far too much of a hurry to grow up. They've lost their innocence and the youthful zest for life that makes childhood so fun. For them, an old school holiday like Halloween which revolves around uncool notions like dressing up in silly outfits and getting free candy just doesn't get them excited. It's really a shame.

I was, and still am, the opposite. If I could still get away with trick-or-treating I'd still be doing it - unfortunately if some scruffy 23 year old trick-or-treater was wandering around with all the kids, I'm sure I'd end up being escorted into the back of a cop car with overprotective parents yelling at me from all sides. Even still, my friends and I trick-or-treated up till the time we were 17... you NEVER outgrow candy, especially free candy, or hanging around with friends and chillin' in the neighborhood.

Ive always hated the whole tick-or-treat thing. Up here its gets too damn cold to be comfortable going out and getting candy. Either you are freezing your ass off trying to cram a costume over heavy clothing, or wearing a mask leads to a wet face from the moisture in your breath. Either way, ive never found it enjoyable. Frankly if I wanted candy I would go to the store the day AFTER halloween and grab all the surplus halloween candy for $1.50 in thoes huge bags.

Very true Reich

Well I went to a haloween party last year and all I wore was a fireman's hat It wasn't really about the costumes tough. More abpout the drinking

Well I am too busy to do anything this year, but next year I think it would be cool to dress up in a really sweet outfit. Like Spider-man or Wolverine or something, or just hang with friends, or go to a party.

Ya I have to agree. All these dumb emo, punk and goth kids these days that are 'too cool for school' and anything else. Bleh, I hope it's just a phase in that generation and goes away by the time I have kids

I utterly hate Halloween, even as a kid I really didn't see the point to it. Dress up as a twit in a daft costume, and beg for sweets, if not we're gonna egg your house....or something else stupid, it's one of the most ill-thought out holidays ever. Halloween parties to, urghhhh, I had the misfortune to be dragged to one once, all I recall is a bunch of adults in dodgey costumes, and pondering which one is the pedophile...

These days I enjoy halloween with a big roaring fire, bottle of wine and my GF, oh and a shotgun wired to the doorbell...

I always loved halloween. But now since Im to old i just give out the candy. Boy did I scare some kids last year. I was so tired of doing nothing all night that I lay down. Then i hear the door bell ring (which was open btw) so i figure the kids will come get the candy. Well they dont and keep ringing, so i go to get up and the kids go crazy cause they thought i was a dummy! LOL it was the best prank ever.

i can't say much things since here in my country we don't have a decent halloween :P there are parties, but nothing that we can really call "halloween". the best of these parties are the girls (with weird clothes- or not ) and the driking of course..
But I like that thing trick-or-treating, however I've never did... is it cool?

Well, i did like the trick or treat... but the most fun part was mounting a tin can on a stick, drenching a towel in gasoline, and having a torch ... i pretty much had everyone beat on the size of the flame... well, it IS the dutch variant of halloween. No scary costumes, just pyromaniac kiddies

We don't have Halloween but I agree kids are acting big and missing all the good things in their young lives that people miss when they older.
The parties don't sound that bad though.

We don't need a silly excuse like Helloween to have a party in the first place, 'weekend' is reason enough

I think a big problem with trick-or-treating these days is that the morons keep moving the time up so that the kids aren't running around in the dark. The whole point of halloween is running around in the dark! There's nothing spooky about trick-or-treating in the daylight (there goes 80% of the fun right there), and flashlights, glow sticks, etc become pointless (there goes another 15% of the fun). About the only thing left is the candy, and that's usually too lame (candy corn anyone?) to bother with. I really feel sorry for today's trick-or-treaters.

Yea, a ****load of kids come at my house at like 4pm It's stupid. I could understand little babies and toddlers, but come on! Yea, not to mention the candy sucks more and more every year I used to get mojos, cans of pop!, bags of chips, tons of chocolate bars ... Now it seems tons of people cheap out and give you a sucker or a few little ****ty bon bons ...

I'm not a jehovah witness, but i understand thier views on halloween, so i guess i will just agree with them. Halloween is satan's work. I enjoy going to the haunted house when i was young tho, that was fun, but scary. I use to go with my friends, buy some soda's and enter the haunted house and just have fun, come out and we will discuss how scary it was, then go right back in.

But i just got away from all that holiday stuff years years ago, thus i dont celebrate anything.
