Talking "We bought it to help with your homework"

...this nice little flash movie has been doing the rounds in various forums lately, so I thought I would post it here, too....

...I dedicate this movie to the select few who actually know what this stuff is all about...

heh.

I'll be honest. I got the general meaning, but not all specifics. I don't think that's too bad for a "Dutch outsider" (or is that MSX fanboy) though

nice movie

...I'd say it's not bad at all ...in fact, you've proven your mettle in all things retro - especially in the various MSX threads, which definately classifies you as "old school" (perhaps sometimes even more than you'd feel comfortable with ).
Too bad that there wasn't any mention of the MSX in that particular flash, because, although little known outside countries like Holland, Japan, Russia & Brazil, it was a nice machine, with a different but exciting selection of software...

I enjoyed the references in the lyrics too, although the screenies are Spectrum-only (as if we didn't get enough Spectrum ports over the years, both you & I ).

oh, yes...sadly the speccy ports on MSX were often seriously butchered during the conversion process. Jet Set Willy came out unscatched, though.
But then again, the Konami rompacks have always been more popular on MSX, not only with me, but with most (Dutch) MSX users.... I have collected 27 konami rompacks over the past few years now, a lot of them are cart only, but some with box and/or manual. And then a bunch of other carts too. I have one original disk-based MSX2 game and a small amount of tapes, but I don't fire those up a lot (I have disks copies of those anyway).

oh yeah, I loved playing on the msx, I was very little (didn't even know how to read) and don't remember much, but I still remember poping that cartridge on the machine and starting to play, one I remember is of a guy with an helicopter kind of thing on the back that got eaten a lot, I guess I sucked

You mean Hero, I think.

Atari 2600 original (Activision game), ported to several other systems. The MSX port was excellent. I've only seen a tape version of it in the Netherlands, but I know a rom exists.

...I was thinking HERO, too. (you beat me to it)
...it was the last game I bought for my 2600... In fact, I had to choose between HERO & River Raid, because I only had enough money left for one game, at that time.

...tough decision, but I chose HERO in the end.

they were both awesome
unlike the Speccy ports, the ones from Activison were good, and better looking than the Atari 2600 originals. Beamrider, Hero, Keystone Kapers and River Raid are favs of mine on the MSX.

(I also think Activision's games were overall way better than Atari's own on the 2600)

...about Activision vs Atari games on the Atari 2600 :

...I haven't really thought about it before, but I think I like them both the same, since the both have their merits...

I remember Activision games being better looking in general (as "good" as an Atari 2600 game can look, what with the blocky pixels and all... ) , while Atari ones had more extra modes & options (at least the ones I had)...
