Getting a Driving License

Tomorrow I am going for a 5 hour class traffic laws (I could've gotten my license 2 years ago but I decided to focus on school first) and after that take a test on traffic laws, later on I will take one on driving the car and take a test for that

I got my license at age 22. I initially didn't care much about it at all;
how things can change

I became 18 May last year. Didn't start yet, it's way too expensive here, at least 2000 euros And I don't get financial support for this from my parents, unlike most friends of mine...

I don't think you are required to take driving classes if you are over 18 years old....taking the classes will just lower your insurance payments when you finally do (US only)

First year I was able to get a liscense, I did. But now trying to find the job to pay for the insurance and to buy my grandmother's car.....it's a neverending process

Player-X, Malaysian driving test is the worst nightmare you'll ever face in your driving life. The lectures are plain bull and a complete waste of time (almost everything they tell you there is common sense, at least to me). And the final test involves hell lots of patience as you are required to spend the whole day there waiting, whereas your actual test is prolly only under an hour

Having said that, all the best, hope you get your license

P/s and don't drive like those bloody ricers, drive responsibly

Wow, quite expensive indeed. In my country it's much cheaper (less than 300 euros, I'm quite sure).
But since I don't have a car right now, and don't plan to get one any time soon, I'm too lazy to take the lessons and do the tests

I commute to the uni every day (about 30-40 miles). I'd be totally stuck without my car.

We're being screwed, Cid & Samor. But then again, we already knew that.

I'm 21 and I don't have a driver's license. I don't need to because public transport is free for me during the weekdays aslong as I study. This would normally end next summer... but it seems I'm not stopping after college.

Damn thats hella strict Player-X. I get mine at the end of february after passing a driving course. I only had to write a knowledge test to get my learning license, but if you dont want to take a driving course you dont have to and all you have to do is pass a road test, no written exam to get your full license.

Razor you lazy ass get on it ASAP! Trust me, the one year waiting period in between your learners and full licenese will piss you off so you might want to just force yourself to get it so you can actually drive when you want to >_< (I should have done this )

Here we have to get a 90% correct on traffic laws before we are even allowed to get to touch the steering wheels at all

I guess me and Reich are lucky (both Albertans) We take a learners test (super easy, basically basic knowledge about driving you should already know) Then a driving test/or go to a driving class, and all that will really do is teach you more skills and lower your insurance somewhat I'm not sure I will be taking the course because within the past year laws have passed which lowers out insurance anyways! But I might take it sooner or later.

It's still a little bit unreal to me that most people don't have a license. When I moved here, 90% of the people I worked with didn't have a license or a car. And I came from a state where public transit sucked so driving was a need. Driving to me is one of the few freedoms I have left. It doesn't matter how I feel, all I have to do is hop in my car, hit the highway, and I instantly feel better.

I got my permit when I was 15 and then my license at 16. IIRC, it was $60 for drivers ed. classes, which is required to get your permit, and then $20 for the license. I missed one question on the written test and did perfect on the driving test.

Good luck to those taking the tests. Just remember, you control the car. The instant you think the car will bite you, it will.

At least our roads are free of people who didn't practice behind the wheel

Too bad a driver's licence can't be imported.... Otherwise it would be cheap to get your licence during a holiday in a nice country

@ klatch: Big time problem here in the middle of nowhere.... public transportation... There are no busses on saturdays and sundays...
