War is stupid and it's better to talk things out, BUT when you're dealing with psychopaths like Usama Bin Laden, you need to capture them by any means necessary because talk will NEVER work with them. Force can be used on the worst of current criminals and talk used to prevent future ones. That's my take on it, and I hope Bin Laden rots in hell!

People have to realize that there is no way to stop this guy other than 1) kill/capture him or 2) destroy his network of finances. Talking to him will not work. War and viloence are regrettable but necessary in this situation. The only thing we can do is hope that no civilians are harmed (too late for that, I guess) and that we can incapacitate this psycho soon.

i don't think capturing him will make much differnce. his followers will be even more determined and more likely to carry attacks out on the u.s if he is captured/killed. i'm getting a bit worried with those antrax casses breaking out in florida and the new one confirmed in New York

I don't like the ideo that we (the US) are fighting an "evil foe" and trying to "eradicate" terrorism. First off, calling someone evil doesn't do anything but whip people into a religious fervor (though that's probably the idea). Bin Laden and his followers can call us whatever the hell they want, but we should be above that. Also, how do you eradicate terrorism? It's an idea. The only way to kill an idea is to kill all of the people possessing it.

I don't have the answers, folks, but I can still whine.

Now THAT'S American.

The way to eradicate terrorism is to make potential terrorists so scared of our retribution that they don't even try it - and the only way to make them scared is demonstrate the ability to kill anyone, anywhere, at anytime.

A war against terrorism. You think this is new eh? I lived in the middle of one for 18 years. The so called "troubles". So I can tell you this when it comes to terrorism. Bombing them only gives them extra support which they use to hit you back harder. Sending in soldiers only gives them a visible target to help highten their hatred aginst you. Locking them up only makes them a hero. Killing them makes them a myrter.

The real thing that stopped the terrorism here was none of these things. It was support. The omagh bombing atroicity. They lost all support and respect because of it. When they lost their respect they lost their funding. Then they stopped killing and started talking like civilised ppl.

If you want to stop bin laden then you have to show his supporters the truth of their actions. That they are murdering innocents, something that no true holy man would do.

Wouldn't that pretty much scare ANYONE? And who has the kind of judgment to warrant such power? Not GW, I think.

But I agree the only thing we can do is deter such acts.

Beta's probably the resident expert on this, so I'll go by his word - but the problem with Bin Laden is that 1) he has no need of funding, he has his own personal fortune and 2) supporters are much easier to get because of the religious factor. Both of these are different from the situation in Ireland, I think. This guy's a whole different beast.

Actually It's not really. A fortune can only stretch so far when funding an army. The terrorism here is/was due to religion as well.

On one side is the IRA a terrorist group which wants to unite Northern Ireland and the replublic. Their members are catholics who hate protestants and carry out despicable acts against protestants, their families, churches and workplaces.

On the other side is the UVF a terrorist group which wants Northern Ireland to remain separate from the replublic. Their members are protestants who hate catholics and carry out despicable acts against catholics, their families, churches and workplaces.

Even today the hatred between the two religions is so bad that there are walls, the so called peacelines, separating the two.

Berlin one had 1 wall, Belfast has 22.

I think Beta is right! but we can´t stand it any more! i mean look at all that ppl that died on the WTC, and the way they died. We must show power!! or else i think we will be expose to his f****** cowards atacks!!! and the worst of all is pll are messing up a lot. i mean why americans are killing arabian ppl in his own countrie. i know is not everybody but, we have to think twice before acting. WE CAN´T BE LIKE THEM!!!!!
