Aspartame, the secret killer

A good friend of mine showed this website. It's a site about a poison called aspartame that is found in many sugar substitutes and diet products. My father was a diabetic and he often used sugar substitutes and drank diet sodas and I wonder if this contributed to his early death at only age 44. I think everyone here should be worried if they or a family member eat or drink products that could possibly contain aspartame.

Well...I'm not entirely sure. I see as many sites claiming aspartame is perfectly safe for you as I do the "silent killer" sites. I think aspartame causes problems, but I'm not sure if they're any worse than sugar itself is. I do know that after I finish my current batch of aspartame drinks, I'll stick to sugar. But that's because my head feels kind of funny if I drink too many of them. I need to check some of my sugar free stuff for aspartame though. -_-

The effects of 'aspartame' are anything but conclusive. Like microwaves with cancer, aspartame has been known to cause neurological complications and possibly brain-type cancers. Does this mean regular sodas are better? The key to everything whether it be diet soda or regular is moderation and exercise.

There're no conclusive findings about aspartame (I don't like it, though. The taste is awlfun IMO).

There've been a few correlations found in small-scale studies, but such are to be expected. Larger studies are still needed before we can draw conclusions. Of course this does not stop websites from spreading the info that aspartame is harmful...

Reminds me of the theory; the yellow coloring from mountain dew will shrink your penis. Clearly a false myth.

Who knows nowadays...The theories about aspartame may be true, but because such a theory can be harmful to many large companies they can simply hire scientists to counter. The same deal goes with cell phones.

Who knows for sure....need an alternative?

Try sucralose...It is marketed as SPLENDA® and is starting to appear in many foods and beverages.

Oh crap, I forgot to post the website before. http://www.dorway.com/

Here's a long article too on the problems aspartame could cause: http://eagle.westnet.gr/~cgian/barua.htm

I think I'll stick with all natural good tasting sugar.

Sugar makes us fat and damages our teeth, but that's something we can handle. Plus, it tastes much better. For that reason, I prefer the well-known risks of sugar over the little-known riscs of substitutes like aspartame.

A recent study suggests some people who drink diet sodas have increased appeitites. This study is true in my case. When I drink diet soda instead of the norm, I tend to eat alot more. This maybe due to the sugar's density opposed to the light feeling that diet soda's makes me feel.

Hey, if you didn't know the everything is somehow bad for your health... I don't think you're going to die if you happen to drink diet colas or take sugar-free products... I'm sorry that your father died but I don't think he died "just" because aspartame...

Ha I drink nothing but aspartame drink products, I wont touch a regular can of soda pop, Aspartame is a legitimate product atm and I will continue to use it, Also for people like diabetics its one of the best solutions.

Would you guys like to go back to Saccarine? I'm sure if you eat a truck load of the stuff it cant be good for you, Then again, Saccarine was the same deal, Eat a truck load of a day and you'll get cancer.

*eye roll* Conspiracy theories.

Aspartame is actually one of the most heavily tested products by the FDA and one, Aspartame is made up primarily of 2 amino acids found in our current diets anyway, Aspartic acid, and phenylananine, You'd have to consume 125 + tablets a day or drink 15 + soda can pops to be at any risk.

You mean this?

Personally I can't stand the stuff. Makes me physically ill. It's just me though, I'm weird like that.

I wasn't suggesting that at all. I know that's not why my father died; I just meant it could have made him more ill than what he was.
