Yay... my monitor caught fire again...
Really, I'm getting sick of this. This is the second time my monitor has caught fire. Well technically its a different monitor since I took the previously burnt one back and got another one just like it to replace it... am I the only one seeing a trend here? I'd just like to thank the people at ViewSonic for creating such a flammable line of monitors.

I'm sorry? this is the first time i heard of monitors catching on fire on their own w/o outside help (like putting paper inside, accidentally spilling whisky in, etc)...

Where the hell you buy your monitors?
They are not supposed to caught fire unless they are something about 15 years old. I suggest you buy next one from reputable shop and reputable model, like Samsung (which makes excellent monitors for price) or Samtron (owned by samsung. cheaper that samsung and still excellent ones).

I have no idea why it caught... it just started smoking so I took it outside. We bought it from a proper shop and the first time it caught we sent it back to the company itself and they sent us a new one. Maybe its a fault in the line since the same thing happened to both.

if you got one designed for 110V and you live in a 220V country it will definitely catch fire,it looks like you're no doing that so I am baffled on what happened, maybe you could show us some "autopsy" photos

I'm still using an NEC MultiSync 17" manufactured in 1994 and it hasn't blown up or caught fire yet.

For huge and rather non-new monitors its a good practice to shut them off during your sleep. Unless your mesmerized by your screensaver i see you reason to leave it on anyway. You can run process' without your monitor on, you can download without your monitor on, you can even play music while your monitor is off to help you sleep like i do. Also shutting down the monitor at night conserves electricity, and I believe huge monitors can consume a nice supply of electricity.

My cheap Dell monitor is a few years old, but it does well. It does let off a large amount of heat though, but im not really worried about it. It isnt all that great on refresh rates though.

We're conservtive on power and I already knew that the monitor doesn't need to be on in order for the computer to work. And I checked the scene of the spontaneous smoking and it doesn't look like there was any reason to overheat. But anyways monitors are designed so that they can run nonstop for long periods of time (perpetually). Anyways the monitor I'm using now is approximately 15-20 years old and its in perfect condition and I rather like it since it still has dials for changing the position of the screen rather than the annoying 2 buttons and a giant menu. Infact we're out of decent monitors now because a different one of ours caught fire a few months ago
