media = control

do you believe that there are times in the usa or the world when the media is paid off or told by the gov't to do things a certain way..or say them a certain way as to throw off the actual "equality and non-biased" form of the news. I think that media = ultimate peer pressure because its not as quick and harsh as say friends telling you to smoke it up etc.. but this one takes its time and slowly edges away at your mind. Just a thought.

CNN
i didn't want to say it , but yesterday one of my friends told me that there is a poll asking if israel was right when they killed "Ahmad Yaseen" .
76% was yes .
we gathered all our friends and told every one to vote and make every one vote .
but the result was the same !!!!!!

now let's think , if we were 2 friends who asked about 20 of our friends to vote and to ask their friends to vote and we just got their half do this (10 out of 20) , where every one asks his friends too .
for about 5 cycle or so .
2*10*10*10*10 = 20000
while the poll had the same percent . strange isn't it ?
ofcourse i'm not sure of the number nor my theory .

ahhh... the spin of the media. This is why I hate politics.

I totally agree... if not paid off by the Govt.... then paid off by political parties or lobbyists. Or even just the journalist trying to get their idea's/rhedoric across...

It happens all the time... here atleast. Just gotta listen to everything and try and make the best guess as to who is telling the truth lol

I hate the mass media. It spreads so much scientific ignorance/nonsense while at the same time fostering superstitious thinking

The worst of all is when all the lies and misinformation serve a political purpose. You can see this trend in the current debates about GM foods (over Europe more than in the US) or stem cells (on the US more than on Europe).

Too many news are tainted with political ideologies/agendas and even scientific breakthroughs are distorted the same way (through ill-intentioned editorials).

Look at the cloning issue, for instance. In my previous thread about cloning many people feared that a dictator would create an army of clones, or that clones lack individuality, or that they are born in adult form. This kind of thinking is completely wrong, yet many people spouse these opinion in today's society. This is all due to the mass media (with Hollywood leading the parade ) promoting scientific ignorance. Stupid movies like this one or Gataka actually hamper fruitful public debate, by filling the general population with mistaken notions about cloning and genetics. And the science coverage on most newspapers and TV networks is rather poor, lacking both in detail and accuracy (and abounding with hidden political motives).

*DW checks to see if hell froze over*

You mean to tell us that we and Boltzmann agree on something! The media is the ultimate tool of doom. Average folk crowd around their TVs believing everything that comes on screen. They cater to radical political lobbyists...or they simply air half truths simply to get the 'controversial story'...They suck up to Hollywood, but can make or break careers.

The Dark Watcher was almost a victim of the media....Tis the main reason why we hate it so. It's a shame that a useful tool to keep people informed can be used as such a weapon. We suppose there is no real way to filter truth from half truths with the media. Just know this..........There are 3 sides to every story...The truth..the alternate point of view...and the media spin that wins ratings.

Nowadays, the media seems to be very baised , thats why I no longer trust what it says. I''d just let myself know about the event which occured today and switch off my tv set/radio

The media is often a tool used by the ruling class to control the majority of the population (i.e. middle class). Simple as that. Don't believe everything you hear, don't believe everything you see, take everything with a grain of salt.

Meh.... information has always been the preferred way of control for goverments....lack of it thats it. In ancient times it was all perfectly arranged, because with the lack of communicatio goverments had lil to do for people to stay ignorant, and thus they didnt bother the upper circles too much. With the advent of mass media, goverments had to try something more dinamic and creative, so they seem to follow two trend nowadays. First, fill the average Joe lil heads with useless information like the 57487 ****y movies that a certain producer has made, or the quantity of grain produced in Iowa in 1945. Next, if the publication of some information is inevitable, we must now as little as possible, and as biased as they can.

The result? a little punny society that never complains, or if it complains it never does anything. A divided and poorly informated society are the perfects keys for giving the goverment the right to do whatever it pleases.

But don't worry the world is wonderful

yea, and cnn is a mouthpiece for democrats, and a handful of newspapers *cough new york times *cough *cough

personally, i hate "news" when they put a spin on the facts instead of just reporting the facts, and regard it as fact.

there is also a difference when you watch a political commentator, and a news reporter. The commentator actually flat out says that he/she is commentating from his views, while reporters report on facts. What irritates me is journalists passing themselves off as reporters but they themselves are commentators.

Yeah I see that as well: Fox = Republicans CNN = Democrats. I dont think all journalists out there are biased, I have seen a few underpaid reporters still report straight facts. Its the big cheese guys who get paid the big bucks. lol

tell me this though, did the total number of people change?

right now it's telling me

YES: 76% 54969 votes
NO: 24% 16905 votes
Total: 71874 votes

Also, if i remember correctly cnn does a vote per ip basis. meaning, if you are voting at school or something, only 1 vote is counted. and i also highly doubt you got that many people

and... look at how big 76% of 71,874... 54624.24, and let's see how big 54,969 out of 71874... 76.479672760664496201686284330912...%

300 people is just .48 of a percent. and that's alot of people. not to mention, as the total gets bigger, the more people is needed to move just one percentage. and i also hightly doubt you got 20,000 people...

Dear brothers and sisters:

Assalamoalaikom.

Do you want to be participants in killing Shaikh Ahmed Yasin?

Do you want to kill him again?

If your answer is NO, you have to contribute in the CNN Vote in the following link:

http://www.cnn.com/2004/WORLD/meast/03/22/hamas.reaction/

When you open this page, go down until you see QUICKVOTE:

The question is: Was Israel justified in targeting Sheikh Ahmed Yassin?

Please vote with NO and then see the result.

The result up to now is about 76% saying YES, and only 24% saying NO.

Are You pleased with this my brother and sister?!

Please forward this to everybody you know.
>>>>>>>>>>>>

ok look at the whole number of ppl who had this mail before me , and think how many times this message was forwarded , see ?

btw look at the date "30 march" wow !!!!!!
that means that 24% is still since 30 march (not even changing to 25 or 23 !!!! unbelievable)
