Post U.S. government to fight war on porn

Quote:
Administration wages war on pornography

Obscenity: For the first time in 10 years, the U.S. government is spending millions to file charges across the country.

WASHINGTON - Lam Nguyen's job is to sit for hours in a chilly, quiet room devoid of any color but gray and look at pornography. This job, which Nguyen does earnestly from 9 to 5, surrounded by a half-dozen other "computer forensic specialists" like him, has become the focal point of the Justice Department's operation to rid the world of porn.

In this field office in Washington, 32 prosecutors, investigators and a handful of FBI agents are spending millions of dollars to bring anti-obscenity cases to courthouses across the country for the first time in 10 years. Nothing is off limits, they warn, even soft-core cable programs such as HBO's long-running Real Sex or the adult movies widely offered in guestrooms of major hotel chains.

Department officials say they will send "ripples" through an industry that has proliferated on the Internet and grown into an estimated $10 billion-a-year colossus profiting Fortune 500 corporations such as Comcast, which offers hard-core movies on a pay-per-view channel.

Forget about Bin Laden, the real threat to America is porn!

I hope the U.S. government realize that the porn industry is one of the few industries that is keeping the American economy going.

it's hard to get the full grasp of the situation in that article, it's incredibly biased and one-sided, but most of the arguements reported were extremely weak. Ashcroft says porn is invading american media, and leaving victoms across the country, when to my knowledge, no one has ever been forced to look at porn (aside from the super bowl fiasco, which wasn't actually porn or affiliated with the porn industry) in america, the people who do watch it watch it by choice, and are consumers. Such arguments would not hold up in any decent court of law, and i see no actual danger to the porn industry here.

I remember watching a documentary on the porn industry.

In the documentary, Ashcroft was ready to go after the porn industry, but 9/11 happened where he was forced to focus his attention on the terrorist.

Looks like Ashcroft has time on his hands to bust some porn.

Uh...yeah.

Anyway, I've always found it funny how with so much violence in the world, the human body seems to be the most disturbing thing in the world. If they're so afraid, why not graft clothes to their bodies and be done with it?

Why? Why, you ask? It's quite simple. If we do not take pornography down, terrorists are going to start using it to brainwash common civilians. Those civilians will then begin to destroy national landmarks in whatever way possible. We must stop pornography now!

this is a war for a sake of having a war against something. if it's something i learned from history, american's always wants to fight for a cause, and it also looks good for the republicans leading a "moral" crusade.

It's another Holy Crusade waged by the Bush administration. Bush and his cronies really have turned the US into a theocracy.

Fortunately you americans can still vote them out of office. At least I know that all my american friends that are transhumanists will be voting for Kerry on November. Same for all American Atheist members, and every free-thinker in the country.

I'd say it, but I don't want a certain member of these boards jumping over me saying that I'm anti-american
