Ever fallen for an infomercial?
I just saw an infomercial and I was wondering if anyone has ever fallen for one. I think it's pathetic how they get all these people that are obviously payed to try and convince you.

I never actually bought anything on an infomercial... but I think a few of them look pretty cool. Like, I actually like cooking and I always enjoy watching the ones for the Miracle Blade knife set, and the ones for the spinning rotisserie oven thing (don't remember what it's called, but they always say on the commercial - "Just set it and forget it!"). They don't seem TOO gimmicky, so maybe they actually work (although the knives probably aren't as good as the commercial for that ridiculous low price). Regardless, as interesting and amusing as those infomercials are, they never tempted me even close enough to want to buy it.

I normally count infomerials as the same category as spam. If they are so pushy in selling that stuff you've got to wonder why... and that always puts my paranoia into overdrive

Like anything else, some are crappy products, and some are very good. For example. Who would have thought, 4 years ago when all those Oxyclean infomercials were on, that it would become a mainstream product that works pretty well? Orange clean is another that has become a mainstream, every day product. As well as Duralube and a few others. All came from Infomercials. I think in the beginning Infomercials were just a way for low budget companies to get there product noticed. They were always overly dramatic and all , but it was to draw attention. Nowdays they are just kind of a joke. No one takes them seriously because they big money companies have taken over and taken them to ridiculous levels.
Oh and the rotisserie is made by Ronco (I think) and they actually do work. I know 2 people that have them. Said they make mouth watering beef, chicken, whatever you put in. Last edited by dpence; February 15th, 2004 at 20:54. |

And no, I have never bought anything from an infomercial, neither have I bought anything from spam.
