Your favorite book ?
Hi everybody !
I'm currently searching for some books to read and I thought I might ask what were the favorite books of the people on this board ![]() Even if it's not my favorite book, I'm currently reading "The Yellow Book #6", a book about conspiracy theories and things like that. Can't think of a favorite book though :P

Re: Your favorite book ?
I like the Foundation series by Isaac Asimov. They are a series of 7 books composed by: Prelude to the Foundation, Towards the Foundation, Foundation, Foundation and Empire, Second Foundation, Beyond the Foundation, Foundation and Earth.
Its a sci-fi series of a possible future of humanity based on historical repetition. And you can always read good classics like Edgar Allan Poe, Agatha Christie. Stefen Zweig books are also good. If what you want is realisitic with heavy enviroment descriptions you can read the Marvelous trip of Nils Holgerson (maybe its not the exact title, i got the spanish translation) by Selma Lagerlof (just search for Nils Holgerson and the author, its a pretty good book) If what you like is fanstastic realism you can get Kafka. The process and the castle are pretty good novels Something from the Romantic period? My personal favorite is Alexander Dumas. Also something from Victor Hugo, or Allan Poe himself. Ill post more as i start recalling

Re: Your favorite book ?
Indeed the Pelican Brief is a good book. How could i forget about that
Also Operation Herodes, but its a lil cliched and i dont remember the author. And the AntiCrist by Nietzche is indeed a neat book

Re: Your favorite book ?
Song of Ice and Fire series by George R.R. Martin. It started with a A Game of Thrones and currently, Martin is working on the fourth book in the series, A Feast for Crows which isn't due out until June 2004.
It's an epic fantasy series along the lines of "Lord of the Rings" or "The Wheel of Time" but in my opinion (and you can quote me on this), A Song of Ice and Fire is far superior to LOTR and Wheel of Time. It takes every fantasy convention and literally spits it right back at your face. The book alternates between 8-10 different points of view and emcompasses a 2000 year+ detailed history (the appendix for each book is about 50 pages). There is no clearcut "good" or "evil" and usually, the "bad guys" triumph over the more honourable and likable characters in the story. Incest, sex (a lot of it!), swearing, backstabbing, politics, gritty violence, etc. are part and parcel of the series. Suffice to say, this ain't your grandpa's fantasy series... it's better.

Re: Your favorite book ?
If you like the fantastic mythology genre... i can recommend one of my favorites (well... i ve only read 3 of the genre but...) Its red moon, black mountain by Joy Chant. Its an extremely rare book though, good luck finding it.
And well.... the DragonLance series are good but they suffer from the merchandise clichè though. Humm... netGhost made me curious.... ill might give the song a shot

Re: Your favorite book ?
Well, I find it hard to nail down any one favorite book since I enjoy to read and not just one genre.
A good non-fictional author is Barbara Tuchman. I've read two of her books, A Distant Mirror (about the black death and everything that went wrong that century), and The Guns of August (about the build-up to WW1 and Germany's near victory.) If you want something less serious there's Adams or Thompson, though the latter is a bit too crazed and psychotic for most. Another good set of Asimov books are his Robot series, though technically I think one of the foundation books ties them together.

Re: Your favorite book ?
Yep... Daneel Olivaw (sp?) is the one that joints the two series, being an imprtant character in the first two and the last book of the foundation. I want to read the robot series too... im kinda intrigued by the starts of the saga

Re: Your favorite book ?
If you like fantasy books you ought to read Terry Pratchet's Discworld saga... for a more serious reading on fantasy books try the Forgotten Realms literature, Cunningham Elaine's sagas are some of my favorites but nevertheless all of them are great books.

Re: Your favorite book ?
books... i remember those... aren't they used in fires? you know, book burnings and whatnot? oh wait thats something different. books are those little things that come with games, right?
okay, enough with me being a retard. i don't have a favorite book, nor have i read many non school required books. but from the few books i've read, i can say my favourite author is David Gemmell who writes some mean fantasy books.
