Silent Hill The Movie

got from ircspy.com

Quote:
Fans of Konami's none-darker survival-horror title will be delighted to learn that the sickest series of videogames since 3DO decided to inflict Army Men on an unsuspecting public will soon be featuring in its own cinematic meisterwerk.
Producer Samuel Hadida, has worked on latter day classics like True Romance and the possibly less well known Brotherhood of the Wolf, and is also working with Capcom on an Onimusha film. Brotherhood's director Christophe Gans, also responsible for the live-action version of Crying Freeman will be directing the cinematic version of Silent Hill.
"Silent Hill is a groundbreaking game with an atmosphere that has mesmerized millions of gamers all over the world - it is scary and clever," said Christophe Gans. "I am very proud to be associated with this game."
No details on which characters from the series will make an appearance as yet, and while the story remains under wraps, we'd guess that in keeping with the game this will be a slightly subtler experience than Paul Anderson's recent Resident Evil series. No news on which actors we can appear in the game yet either, but as we learn more, we'll let you know.

Re: Silent Hill The Movie

Well... at least the director and producer credentials are there. Christopher Gans has made some pretty cool movies such as the aforementioned Brotherhood of the Wolves and Crying Freeman.

They better not screw this up since I'm a Silent Hill fanatic! If the movie is at least half as twisted as the storyline in Silent Hill 2, I'm sold.

Re: Silent Hill The Movie

It's a movie that has potential... both for good and for screwing everything up.
Since I'm also a fan of SH I hope that they do it right.

Re: Silent Hill The Movie

Hm. The story of Silent Hill is one of a great potential for a film... now let's hope they don't slaughter it. (I myself don't really trust mr. Gans )

Re: Silent Hill The Movie

This is like the 4th video game movie in production. The House of the Dead movie is out very soon but it looks dumb from the previews. I haven't seen the Tomb Raider sequel because I didn't think the first one was all that great but I will still see it later on because I've seen every single US video game film(As far as I know). Yes, I have even seen the INCREDIBLY lame Double Dragon movie.

Re: Silent Hill The Movie

That's the exact problem. When filmmakers decide to create something out of a game, they usually pull it out like an "expansion" for the game, if you get what I mean. A stream of eye-candy-filled shots, a few references to the game, and a hot babe of course, to appeal fans of the game, and draw as much money as possible from the flick, hah.

Plus there's also the problem that fans of the game in question usually feel like the director has to keep them in mind while creating the film, something that is so plain wrong, as what we look for in games (fun, mostly) is quite different to what good filmmaking draws from us; this is, emotion. In Silent Hill 2 we have the perfect example; there are SO many people who don't like it because they say it's 'boring', but the game is unusually full of emotion, and the graphics suit so perfectly the mood the story sets for you.

I fear this film will end up being a gorefest, with a few CG-generated-monster-jumps-out-of-a-bush scenes, and a pretentiously loose ending (as to trick people into saying the infamous line: "the ending will make you think", pfft)

Meh, here ends today's rant. Thank you.

Re: Silent Hill The Movie

As the Cigarrete Smoking Man said in the 7th episode of the fourth season of the X-Files (4x07) "Musings of a Cigarrete Smoking Man": The worst book ever writen is better than the better movie ever made.

Hollywood is famous for changing events, characters and everything just to please the masses. I hate how they must make everything look "heroic". Look at the LotR movies, for example. They added lots of useless scenes just to make Aragorn looks more like a Hero - not to mention the junk scenes with Arwen.

Re: Silent Hill The Movie

Well book to movie transitions are mormaly messed up though. I think thats why they came out with that 5disc Set for LOTR that was more accurate to the book. its like 50$ i think, but if your lazy like me and dont like to read. its good. but im cheep so i wouldnt spend that much on movies.

Re: Silent Hill The Movie

I've read the book several times (3, to be exact), and I would be willing to buy the 5-disc set - but only when they lower it's price. $50 is too much for me

Re: Silent Hill The Movie

I saw the resident evil movie, and it was ok, untill they got to the zombies. From here on it was just mindless shooting, the zombies looked terrible, it was a disaster.

>> In Silent Hill 2 we have the perfect example; there are SO many people who don't like it because they say it's 'boring', but the game is unusually full of emotion, and the graphics suit so perfectly the mood the story sets for you.

IT's greant, and I've only seen 2 endings, I won't uninstell it till I get the 6 ones

>> I fear this film will end up being a gorefest, with a few CG-generated-monster-jumps-out-of-a-bush scenes, and a pretentiously loose ending (as to trick people into saying the infamous line: "the ending will make you think", pfft)

You know, I feared that RE was a crappy movie, so I went to the ciné and watched, I thought the plot would be horrible.. etc...
but the overall is OK, the plot is quite good, but I was deceived by the FX (why do they always suck at putting a 3d model in a BG? the lightning on the model doesn't fit with the BG), in there was almost no blood!!!!! WTF? RE was one of the most violent game, and the movie only shows a blurry sequence in the laser room, and a coagulated blood drop

So if SH the Movie has a plot as good as the games,
good musics (SH1&2 opening themes rock), a few gore sequences, and scary stuff, it will be good...
I even hope that they'll beat RE (the more there is RE games, the more they tend to suck)

SH is more about psychology/philo than RE, and they must take this as an advantage...

PS: I wonder what will be the equivalent of P.head and his "knife"

Street Fighter is at least the double of lame that Double Dragon. Guille is the main character while Ryu, Ken and Sagat have just a second role in the story. They said street fighter has so few bads that some has to change of side so Zangief and others are bad guys, while Balrog (M. Bison in japan) it´s a good guy because it´s american.

About RE when the release the zombies i said "here comoes the good part" and i still waiting for the real zombie action.

Really i prefeer the anime movies of video games with an exception: Tekken because left too many characters without participation in the history.
