Microsoft goes after Google

got from ircspy.com

Quote:
Microsoft, which is trying to drive growth by investing in everything from small business software to video games, has quietly set its sights on a new industry -- searching the Web.
Chairman Bill Gates, Chief Executive Steve Ballmer and a handful of other executives sat down in February to answer a question asked countless times before in the world's largest software maker's 28-year history. Should Microsoft build or buy?
What they decided was to build technology that would eventually surpass Google Inc.'s ability to sift through the Web and return results relevant enough to make it the top Internet search destination.
"The decision to build or buy came down to our ability to innovate," said Kirk Koenigsbauer, strategy manager at Microsoft's MSN Internet portal.
"Our ability to innovate is predicated on our ability to own the platform," he added, a clear sign that Microsoft thinks it can only beat Google if it owns the technology.

Re: Microsoft goes after Google

MicroGoogle rocks!!

Or GoogleSoft would be better?

Anyway, their best bet would be to buy Google, not try to make something new.

Re: Microsoft goes after Google

I'd like to see what kind of search-engine MS would be able to cook-up.
I hope they don't buy Google, because they'll probly charge people to use it

Re: Microsoft goes after Google

You guys do realise that Microsoft is a business don't you?

Part of business is looking for new areas to expand into.

Even if they do buy google people will still use it, and if it became a pay service all you little MS bashers would be straight out there looking for a crack or serial.

Re: Microsoft goes after Google

I've used MSN's search engine and it is quite crap. If you all read the article that gamezonline posted carefully, you'll notice that it says nothing about buying out Google. Microsoft just said they are going to build a search engine that will surpass Google's capabilities.

Exactly. I was just about to mention the same thing. It's even stated RIGHT THERE in the quote!

I can't believe so many people just blindly accepted one person's incorrect interpretation of the article as fact instead of reading it for themselves.

Re: Microsoft goes after Google

It's amazing how ppl still flame MS just for the sake of it... let's face it, MS it's a huge business, they are out for money. Can you blame them for doing their job ? What, on their place you wouldn't do the same ?

Guys you really should start acting less biased, any company and any person on MS's place would do the same... then again, I'm used to blind hate towards a company, not my loss though (my judgement still isn't that biased)...
