Martial arts?
Topic is self explainatory. What martial arts have you people trained? What are you planning to pick up? What do you WANT to pick up? Or do you think it's all silly? Why did you start martial arts? You know, just ramble about yourself and martial arts a little :P It'll be interesting, I bet!
Myself, I (as most of you know) fell in love with the fictional character Kenshin Himura. I wanted to come closer to him, but there was no way I could do that. After a while I stumbled upon an advert for a martial arts show in a city called Uppsala (about 40 minutes away with bus). I shrugged and thought "Why not?" and went there. I'm lucky I did, because there I got a sample of the martial art I would soon fall in love with; iaidou. I searched for a dojo, and now I train iaidou. I don't know if I really got any closer to Kenshin in doing it, but the feeling of swinging the sword in real, working techniques - it's wonderful. I don't think I'll ever give up iaidou, at least I hope not. It makes me more mentally stable, gives me something to think about, and... well... it keeps my legs fit - heh heh! Martial arts really is more than just knowing how to fight, it feels so great... I'm thinking of taking juujutsu next time the dojo over here starts a new semester (I don't want to start in the middle of everything, it'd be weird). I wanna learn that too, heh heh... I've went to a practice session with a friend of mine in Uppsala, and it was very fun! (even though I felt like an idiot more than once because I couldn't do anything, but they were all very understanding, heh heh) I ALSO want to pick up naginata... but I have no idea where I'd be able to pick that up, nor if I could afford it beside the juujutsu and iaidou. Btw, the school I train in iaidou is called Muso Shiden Ryuu ^_~x |

Re: Martial arts?
my martial arts is homemade. i call it the mortal kombat movelist. now, don't laugh, its a very serious art. back, back, lowpunch WILL make a spear come out of my hand.
seriously though, the idea of martial arts is good. i wouldn't mind knowing a few good moves, but alas, i have no motivation.

Re: Martial arts?
None. I never will train in any martial arts. I don't like this kind of thing, and probably never will.
I'm all for uploading my mind and living inside a computer

Re: Martial arts?
Real Ninjutsu EXISTS in this time and age? o_O
btw, Exodus, wasn't that the excellent move called "Come here!"? Scorpion? heh heh... Seriously guys, you don't know what you're missing! Try it out once at a dojo somewhere. They always let you take 5 sessions or so for free, so try it! You're not losing anything, and chances are that you'll like as much as me and Elly does! ^_^x |

Re: Martial arts?
I am not sure about Ninjatsu, but a friend of mine said that he began learning that style after he's done with Karate,..I think there are some academy's for Ninjatsu.
As for Martial Arts, I just want to clarify something. From what I saw, people seem to take Martial Arts as what they see in the movies or as a sequence of punches and Kicks. Infact, for every move you do in a Kata , theres a reason for it and there is a secret behind it, its not just a punch you throw on the enemy's face ( you dont have to worry about that now )What I find really interesting is sparring. I often return home with bruises all over my body, but at the end, I got used to it. Its fun ^_^ ( as long as you are winning that is )Yours, -Elly

Re: Martial arts?
Used to practice Tai Chi back then, although it's not a martial art itself... in any case it's excellent for channeling your energy and focus your thoughts...

Re: Martial arts?
We do sparring (we call it randouri though, japanese original term) with bokken made out of a very soft material, so that it doesn't hurt immensly to be hit in, say, the side. Hurts a lot more in the side than the head, anyway... just the way it's designed, somehow. It's really cool!

Re: Martial arts?
I used to do Tae Kwon Do. Like ProtoMan I reached blue belt before I quit. Now the only kind of exercise I do is with my fingers and brain
