A serious question: Gay and proud?

I was watching a program on TV today and the homosexual people were all saying "I'm gay and proud of it", I would like to ask why say this.
I'm a hetrosexual man but I don't feel the need to go around shouting "I'm straight and proud of it".

This is a serious question so no flaming please, its just something I'd like to know.

Re: A serious question: Gay and proud?

thats because your part of the majority and it isn't an exception....although assuming your white, being a white, straight, male makes you seemingly part of the minority...

Re: A serious question: Gay and proud?

because there are a lot of heterosexual people out there so theres nothing special about it...homosexual people say they have 'branched' from the normal heterosexual lifestyle thereby making them 'special' and wanting to tell the world about it...

Re: A serious question: Gay and proud?

The reason a lot of gays do this is because people throughout their life have told them that being gay is wrong and shameful but by saying they are proud of being gay, they are saying that being gay isn't wrong and that they aren't ashamed of being gay.

A lot of straight people misinterpret gay pride as gay people trying to put what they do in their bedroom on public display. Being gay isn't just about sex with someone of the same gender, it's also about love and finding someone who makes you happy.

Re: A serious question: Gay and proud?

dont get me wrong by saying this, im straight , its just that i have something to add to DarkAurora's post, in homosexual relationships, its just the same as the heterosexual ones, its just that they like the same gender, thats all, everything else like the feelings r exactly the same as the heterosexual ones. one might even think that gay ppl have stronger bonds in relationships because they can be the way they r, dating n staying with the same gender eventhough the public gives them alota pressure.

Re: A serious question: Gay and proud?

Gay relationships have a better chance of working out because both people in the relationship feel the same exact way and can understand each other's feeling. Straight men and women unfortuanetly feel opposite things and that can sometimes strain straight relationships.

Re: A serious question: Gay and proud?

Greetings,

It's just a way of stablishing themselves as individuals, trying to fight off the pressure of society. It's a kind of statement saying that it's not shameful to be gay.

BTW, I'm straight

Live long and prosper.

Re: A serious question: Gay and proud?

Well there is some validity to his question. I mean why do we have a gay pride parade but no black pride parade or native indian pride parade? Both these minorities have felt discriminated against in America and Canada (especially native indians), but there's no parade for them. I can only think of two reasons. Either homosexuality is an issue that needs so much public awareness and acceptance or that homosexual people are just so special to have their own parade day. Maybe it's both, I dunno. Just seems kind of strange that that they get so much attention while others don't.

Just for the record, I'm heterosexual (I don't like using the word straight, as it implies that homosexuals are crooked in some way), and nothing in this post was meant to offend homosexuals (in case someone took it that way).

There is something close to a black pride parade; it's called the million man march.

Re: A serious question: Gay and proud?

I have no problem with "I'm gay and I'm proud." What I DO have a problem with is "I'm fat and I'm proud." I mean, I don't think it's right to make fun of people and make them have poor self-esteem and think they're worthless as a PERSON. But it's not something to be proud of. I mean it's unattractive, it restricts your activity and lifestyle, and worst off... IT'S UNHEALTHY!!

bah, the human rights movement occured in the 60's (at least in the USA), by the way I think that black history month and any celebration that sets blacks aside as "special" should be done away with if we intend to end descrimination...and affirmative action is just white supremacy that benefits blacks.

as a Reverend Jessie Jackson impersonator once said:

"Using subversity to promote diversity creates adversity in your university"

----by the way I think that black history month and any celebration that sets blacks aside as "special" should be done away with if we intend to end descrimination...

It will end the day there is no discrimination. We already know there is and if some kind of public concience is not created then it will continue.

---I mean why do we have a gay pride parade but no black pride parade or native indian pride parade?

Because the have not thought about it?

---There's been studies on homosexual animals.
Like monkeys for example.

Re: A serious question: Gay and proud?

I don't see a problem with having black history month. Blacks have had to suffer a lot in the US, so I don't see what's wrong with taking out a month to recognize their accomplishments.
