The future of PS2
Hey guys, i'm gonna buy a PS2 soon. So, what will the future holds for me? Maximum pleasure? Check. Flunk in exams. Hopefully not.
Socializing skills down 50%. Check. Anymore? Seriously, what should I get in addtion to buy PS2? What's with the S-Video thingy? Is it better than the normal AV cable (White Red Yellow cable)? Which chanel in my tv should I use for S-Video? I'm a newbie to PS2 here so any helping hand would be grateful. Finally, my dream of getting a PS2 will soon be a reality. Of course, I'm gonna play it during my semester break only and during weekends. Or is it??? :P Pray-stat-ION 2 yeah!

There are so may accessories for PS2, HDD, Keyboard, Mouse, DVD remote control, Network Adapter...etc. Buy that you'll use on gaming only. Such a Network adapter will spoil your money, but HDD 40GB will be nice
[if you want to play FFXI]VGA box ! You'll be able to play the PS2 with you PC monitor just like me

OK:
Iy you want the best quality, get a VGA adaptor for it so you can use it on your monitor. If you don't wanna do that, and your TV supports S-Video, S-Video is significantly crisper.

If your TV has a free SCART cable (looks has lot of holes and is somewhat rectangular) BUY NOW a Logic3 golden SCART cable, it would increase significantly the image quality!

dont buy yet, rumor has it all 3 major console's (ps2,xbox,gamecube) are gonna have a price slash, if one console begins to drop it's price other will follow to eliminate the risk of harder competition. Just take your time and wait....
p.s the ps2 is a nice choice!! have fun and good luck with it. |

That's a pretty good deal IMO. I got mine for $780 with 3 games, 2 dual shock controllers and 1 mem card back in 2001. 60Hz US NTSC version though, since I cant understand Japanese, and so it costed more in my place.
![]() Well prices may be lower after a while, but if its the holidays youre buying your PS2 for and you need not sell an arm to get it I say shoot. edit: I think the PS2 may cause some eye sores, loss of concentration and memory, more instant/fast food in you home and rattling hands. Greetings,
I'm still a long way from buying a PS2 (or a X-Box). The prices are still too high on Brazil (R$ 1.500,00 - the price of a good computer). I'll have to wait some more... The PS1 is still selling very well here, the prince dropped only in 2001 (they even sell the Sega Master System in many stores). Live long and prosper.

I think the only problem you might have though is with your controllers, i'v seen people buy controllers after a month of geting a new one. it happened to me all the time. and their 30F***IN bucks each, So you just might want to be careful Someones not trying to sell you one of the old ones from the first waves. THOSE where jacked. and i think some of them are still being sold, theirs really know way to tell right away if its having problems.

Here in Mexico you get a ps2 and one controller for $300 dollars thats why a lot of people i know have asked some friend to buy it in the states. ($220 with the games is not very comparable to what we get here).

I've never heard of those. Must be new. How does the picture quality compare to S-Video?

SCART is a european A/V soloution which contains support for most different A/V standards. With various adaptors you can connect S-Video, compostie or whatever through it. It also has an auto-switching pin, si if the device you are using supports SCART, when you turn it on and it is plugged up to a TV, the TV automaticaly switches to the appropriate channel.
