"There is a man on the market who is selling eggs"
"Three people came to him and bought the eggs from as follow:

First one: he bought half of the eggs and half of one egg.
second one: he bought half of the eggs and half of one egg.
Third one: he bought half of the eggs and half of one egg.

And all eggs were sold after this.

So how many eggs were in the bascket?? Note: Without breaking any egg."

There is no answer:

1. you can't tell how many he first starts off in, could be 100, could be 50, it doesn't say.
2. .5+.5+.5 = 1.5 he's gonna have to break an egg to give a half to everyone.

half of one egg+half of one egg+half of one egg=1,5 eggs
so half of the eggs=0,75 so.....0,75+0,75+0,75=2,25
2,25+1,5=3,4 eggs:confused: ..................err...............
or it would be:1,5 eggs+1,5eggs=3 eggs am I right?

if we said 3 eggs

the first one will take 1.5 and .5, so it will be two
2nd will take half of the eggs which .5 and half of one egg is .5 so it will be 1, 1+2=3 so the last one will not get anything.

Sorry Wrong Answer try again

first person=2 eggs + 0,5
second person=1 egg +0,5
third person=0,5 egg + 0,5 =5,5 eggs???

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!SEVEN EGGS!!!!

edit:I was guessing and messing around a bit so it was an accedentily discovery...still not sure if it is correct tough

first person:0,5 +3,5 eggs=4eggs....so you still have 3 eggs...
second person:1,5 egg + 0,5 egg=2 eggs
tthird person:0,5 egg + 0,5 egg=1

I devised a simple mathematical explanation for the problem (it's pretty lame, you're all alerted, but it works )

Note: 'x' stands for the number of eggs remaining in the basket.

To find how much eggs the last man took from the basket we use the following equation:

x - 1/2x - 0,5 = 0
1/2x = 0,5
x = 1

now for the second man, using the input from the last:

x - 1/2x - 0,5 = 1
1/2x = 1,5
x = 3

and at last the third man:

x - 1/2x - 0,5 = 3
1/2x = 3,5
x = 7

And so the number of eggs in the basket originally was 7 (remember, 'x' is the number of remaining eggs in the basket).

Live long and prosper.

A truck was driving down the highway when it went through an overpass (under a bridge) the truck was too tall and got stuck. How did they get it unstuck? Probably too easy.

Greetings,

Hey I love math even though my knowledge is just a basic one. Bu I like calculus and stuff like functions f(x)=x^2, and it gets better when you have to derivate or integrate them, it's so exciting .

As you move ever deeper into the universe's structure you find yourself surrounded by math, that's a fact.

Live long and prosper.

Maths is may be my favourite subject, but I usually keep it away from my daily life.

(BTW, I too LOVE integration )

As for that truck puzzle, is that really a puzzle or a real life event? :eek:

BTW, I guess the answer is to use the reverse gear
