Red face Admins and big avatars.

Why can they have huge avatars? I would have thought rank wouldn't matter as it's to conserve space.

eh?

This is the only unofficial "perk" I get, and it's just 4KB. So I honestly think my using a slightly larger avatar is justifiable.

it isn't filesize, Shiori, it's resolution. but i don't care anyway, except the fact that admins shouldn't have any exceptions.
the thing that REALLY annoys me, btw, is some users' HUGE text signatures. it fills up the whole screen sometimes -.-

Aren't alot of stars and a big hunk of pride reward enough? I mean, if I were to make a big avatar that's only 4kb, would it be acceptable? I mean cmon, it's only 4kb.

While currently there isn't any limit for us on how big it could get... hell I can put up my sig image as an avatar... it's really up to our judgement on how big is too big. Personally my oversize ones have never reached any bigger than 110 height... and only because I felt I needed that res to show off details, not because I'm pointing out "hey I got bigger avatar than you nya-nyaah".

I understand your position on this thing, however I personally feel I also have my own stand. It isn't all that unreasonable, and doesn't really slow down page loading times. All it has is a slightly bigger res. Unlike some other admins, I don't get FTP space for my site/images, nor do i even have an ngemu email address. All I get for moderating is this privilege. So why do you think I can't have at least this? If you can give me a good reason, I'll take it down immediately.

cooliscool > the normal avatar-upload is limited; we would have to manually alter it probably...imagine all regulars here wanting larger avatars :/

For the obvious reasons. Standing out from the croud means more and more people will want to do what you're doing and it'll cause an uproar. In some circumstances it might mess up the page's look when your pic is in the crowd of a bunch of small avatars.

Sorry if I'm sounding like a whiny *******, I don't mean to be. As long as it doesn't cause problems with people wanting them/the pic messing up the readability of a thread, then I see no problem.

Er, my complaint is not self centered if that's what you're implying, I was just thinking that standing out may cause problems which I mentioned above. :loopy:

I've been using them for quite some time now; it's only now that somebody brought the matter up, which means no one noticed any significant distortions due to unreasonably-sized avatars, which also means the current policy of self-disciplining ourselves is working.

And what is the deal with stars anyway? They're just a bunch of tiny .gif images... trust me, when you've been here for long it doesn't really account for much anymore; probably because the toll of doing an admin's work will simply outweigh the "benefits" you get from it, if there are any at all.

I wasn't saying anything particularly to you. It was just I think that Admins having big avatars may not cause problems.

Big Avatars IMO will cause as much problems as Admin's special stars.

I don't see stars as anything special actually, Though I registered *nearly* 2 years ago I've only had my 7 for close to 5 months and don't think much of it. Huh? I never noticed you used big avatars before.. oops. Sorry about that Shiori. I guess Ayumi stands out in a big crowd.

yeah, being an admin has its annoyances:
1) you can never act really wack and get away with it if you're admin
2) people act different because you're admin (sucks)
3) your PM folder is larger than your IQ
