Why are you interested in emulation? *second attempt*

I'm just curious, with so many people asking for playable commercial games only, I'm really worried about how this world is turning ugly....

Personaly, I like seeing the progress of emulation, thats why im so interested, you'll never see me play with a rom for more than 10 mins, i just try the game to see how the emulator is good, thats it, even when PCSX 2 will be able to play comm. games, i will only rent a game to try it out, thats all, I say buy the console or at least send some anonymous donations to the company cuz they worked hard for it, lets give em what they deserve.

yeah what yeloanzdevil said, but also i don't like having to use a tv and playing on multiple systems. having one is a lot better for me. long live PCs!

for 3 reasons:

1. Emulation as a progress. I find it very interesting to know how consoles render graphics and work.

2. for the Emu's advanced features, namely 2xSaI, Super SAI , Super Eagle Mode, D3D emulation, Savestates, higer resolutions, Abiltity to use the card's FSAA and AA within ( depends on the emu ofcourse)

3. To play my classic games once again

for a while I was playing snes and playstation and n64 games but eventually I started to look at it at the point where I can actually play the games that you just can't find anywhere.

for two reason:

1- Purely for the progress

2-To play my favorites classic game.

But I can't vote for two options, progress got my vote.

With the older consoles it's just to play games that were never released in the US. With the playstation it's more a matter of sheer piracy and disregard for sony.

*edit* Forgot the whole poll thing... I picked 'to play the classics.' Despite my eyepatch and parrot I still mostly use emulation to play games that aren't commercially available.

Our Atari 2600 had seen rough times...it was placed on the shelf for years....we missed playing it....for the memories and for the classic gaming. Then we learned of emulation...what better way to preserve the classics.

Once we tried emulation..it intrigued us so much...netplay, graphic enhancement...wow...we have been addicted ever since

The same goes for me when i sarted (with SNES emulation). Then when i moved to PSX emulation and borrowed my friends games. But now that I have a PS2, i barely use PSX emus, except to try out the upgrades made to the emus and Plugins.

So my vote goes to play classic games.

i use emulation to play the classics. my destroyed super metroid cartridge motivated me to find out what this zsnes was and then i eventually got more and more interested in other emulation. i am currently really interested in neo-geo emulation. i find the roms more efficient than a cabinet arcade sitting in my basement collecting dust.

I use emulation to play old games, primarily from SNES... and since I don't have my unit up and running (the SNES) anymore...

also, it gives you a wide variety of option that a normal console can't bring, like graphic enhancement, game speed, save points etc.

also, emulation let you play games that you haven't played in different console.. like flatbush said, neo geo emulation (although I'm not that interested in it)

1) Lack of money to shell out 300 for a new console every few years.

2) To play golden oldies on old systems.

3) The controller thing never really grew on me.

I used to play emulation because I was bedazzled by the increase in graphics, BUt... It no longer interests me. I've seen things far greater than that. And emulated PSX/nin64 kind fall behind in the graphical department now.

I emulate because of save state. That's it. Well, maybe its also because of the convenience of a PC.

No, the last controller I had was a genesis controller. That I got used too, but then my dad invested in a computer and Ive been playing keyboard, mouse, joystick all these years. Ive only recently bought a gamepad because it was a cheap $13 used gamepad down from $40 retail. emus are the only thing now I will use the gamepad for, the rest of computer games its good ol keyboard\mouse for me.

EDIT: I also like faster loading times. And all my games in 1 place. No having to switch rooms, hunt for games, set the console up again, hook up the cords. Wait on the slow loads, then play...

The reason I'm interested in emulation is mainly because of the fact that through emulation gaming history is kept alive for the next generation.

But to be more specific I came into emulation to play games which were never released here in Europe.

So if I would vote then : to play the golden oldies gets my vote.

I don't know how exactly I got into emulation, I have always gone in odd paths with computers, I think I just stumbled onto it. As for why I like it, well my snes, nes, and genesis are all packed up now but at the time it was a PAIN to try and play the old games (and my Nes controlers barely worked as well as theiving nefew that stole my mega man games, 1-6 for the nes). Then the enhanced graphics happened (snes, psx) and I was there! I started to get interested in the code aspect but the vb nes emulator went over my head. Now I am just interested in seeing how much more power and creative the programers can be in creating these near works of art.

That and I just love playing the classics.

I am in wonderment how companies, especialy the large ones that have some resources, cannot see that emulation can be a way to increase their profits rather than spending money on trying to stomp out emulation. Well connectix saw the potential.
