Somethin' to annoy y'all - A homework thread!

Hey y'all, now I shalt grant y'all something to annoy the hell out of everyone and to finish my final project.
The thing is, I gotta write an essay following the prompt:

The term paper will be due on Wednesday, December 11th. It will be a 15 page paper on a contemporary issue in American politics. The paper should discuss the history of the issue, previous court decisions or legislation, the current leaders or advocates in the debate and the relevant arguments on both sides of the sissue.

He also said that this should be an issue that revolves between all three branches of American goverment, but can be either federal or state issues. I am open to suggestions here...

I was hoping for some maths but anyway:

Isn't terrorism a historic issue? I remember reading about a former attack on the WTC before 9/11.
AFAIK they parked cars in certain spots that were filled with semtex.

You can talk what was being done back then and what is being done back now by who and how etc...

All 3 branches? I say to do something that's pretty controversial then like abortion or gun control. I find gun control to be a uniquely American issue, as most countries are much stricter on gun control. I also hate gun activists and think if guns were completely illegal in the US than there'd be far less crime (at least stuff like murder and armed robbery)... although I believe guns will never be abolished in the US, as it was founded with a gun-toting freedom cowboy mentality.

The 'right to bear arms' thing is a relic of the days when the new US government feared British invasion, and wanted the people to be able to defend themselves. Guns are a thread to civilised society IMO, and they should be banned like they are here.
Yes if you are really desperate you can get your hands on a gun here, but if you are caught......

I agree completely, but like I said, I doubt guns will ever be prohibited in the US. The NRA always says "Guns don't kill people, people kill people"... that's true, but it's much harder to kill someone without a gun - you have to be either really determined, really skilled, or really psycho. I think I read somewhere that the combined amount of homicides in NYC and Washington DC in a month is more than the amount of homicides in all of Japan (another country where firearms are prohibited) for an entire year

Guns are a tool made specifically to kill.
I doubt someone would use a gun to cook with.

It's a program to get public funding to pay for people to send children to private schools. I'm fairly sure all three components of the government have been utilized for vouchures at some point of time. If you want one I'm sure HAS been used with all three branches and "might" become a contemporary topic, imperialism might work.

If you want my opinion, this only applies to the rich. It allows them to pay less for their child's education, thus taking existing money away from the public education system. The voucher program does not help the poor at all because the poor will not be able to pay for ANYTHING. My local privite High School goes for about 20,000 a year. No matter how much of government help will put a poor child through that school. Poor families will be unable to pay for whats left over.
