Umbrella Corporation launches new product..

Story is here.

Better stock up on your Rocket Launchers, as we all know this can only end in one way: zombies.

Man, that's cool! I wonder how this is going to work? This is definately a new breakthrough in science.

I think it's scary. The more that technology advances, the more that man tries to be mother nature.

Yeah, but I don't see any problem with that. At this point we pretty much have no choice, as we have killed Mother Nature.

... that's not the scary part. The scary part is that humans with their wicked minds, will use these methods to kill each other.

heh. Basic human nature. Not much can be done about that, although it is of note that we have had nuclear weapons for almost 50 years now and not blown up the planet yet. That's rather impressive.

I don't care about humans trying to improve themselves as long as it doesn't reach a "Gattaca" point. While I consider myself to be scientifically inclined, there are certain things which have to be left to chance.

In the end, technology shall be the end of us...

I can't believe the US Government would sponsor the grant for this but refuses to allow stem cell research.

If they're going to create a new life form, they should go with something cool like elves. They're wasting a ton of money on this. I could put $3 million to much better uses than this project.

"They point out that the anatomy of the heart was worked out in the middle of the 16th century — but the first heart transplant didn't happen until 1967."

I hope this rule applies to this "research" too.

cooliscool, the field of biology and genetics is beginning to grow at the same rate as computers did 50 years ago. (remember those things?)

Personally, I am pretty happy about it, and I applaud this research.

BGnome, it's bacteria, but it's very special.

This biological-genetics stuff really scares me a lot, for the science and specifically the guys involved in the project is OK, as Ninja said they broke Mother Nature an it's exactly that what is wrong, these are the thing that MUST left aside forever IMO it's extremely dangerous alter things that way. I know there's a ton of projects like that and god knows what else more. The goverment secret projects that are unknown to society for that reason, not creating panic.
As Kraiger says, if something goes wrong, let's equip our rocket launchers.

I cant say much about this, except for I dont really like the idea of creating a new life form, since things may go wrong and... who knows? Certain bio-engineering is just something that's againts god and mother nature. Some people say that he who goes againts nature wont be forgiven, and I believe that somewhat.

Han, I think you are basically on the right track. In the past, man's dealings with nature have brought the world crashing down.

However, forbidding any more is just blindedness. The damage is done. It needs to be fixed now. Mother Nature is no longer strong enough to do the job herself. We MUST step in to help her out.

As for this research, what's the harm in it really? They are just creating some very simple forms of life. Creating an entirely new lifeform from scratch would be a HUGE breakthrough in science.

Frankly, I am amazed the church has spoken up about this yet. maybe tomorrow they will attack science again.

Hm, in my opinion, this is freaking me out.
I'm on Han's side over this issue.
Human doesn't need to be god or mother-nature.

My side? Im quite neutral on this one (cause Im interested in knowing the outcome as well), maybe only a little towards the no side.

Creating what only nature used to create is ground breaking, but still its like... not very right. Messing with life isnt right, atleast. Its like altering nature, which is...weird, since nature is such a big thing and humans are but only puny little organisms. I get a feeling that nature doesnt like things messing with it, but Im probably over-sensitive. Atleast us humans cant defy the laws of physics, yet.

Im with Ninja about using what is wrong to fix that which we have made wrong, though.
