Why is there an obsession among filipino women to look lighter? Is this an asian phenomenon or just a filipino one?

have you ppl ever seen those movies from the warrior times.. everyone who was rich bleached his skin and put on toupé's don't ask me why but it was "funky" to be white *lol*... i like chocolate more *yummyyummy*

well i'm filipino, and i prefer to be lighter, cuz if you are already tan, what's the piont? and i guess chinese influence also play in. plus if you are tan back then (long ago like 1800) you are most likely a farmhand, if you are lighter, means you are sheltered and rich etc.

like saying black people wants to be darker... some do but most don't. people wants to be in between.

Perhaps it has something to do with the old adage my grandfather told me, which was "the only good filipino is a light-skinned one." Also, my grandfather was drunk all the time.

racism is not "then", it exists then, it exists now. And what do you have against women wanting to be "whiter"? If other women want to tan, other women want to be lighter. Its the same thing. Just it because filipino women to it, does that mean they are obsessed? And whats the point of bringing it up? Are you being racist?
