Ok, i just watched the movie for a second time and the storyline still eludes me!! Wtf does Section 6 have to do with project 2501? What is the project's purpose, and how does the puppet master tie into it?

*lol* i just watched it again and didn't understand anything... sorry but it's simply faaaaar too complicating cause it's in english and they're talking much too fast... my english's quite good for a foreigern but this one's just too hard

I knew the whole story once.. But it's been a while since I've seen it again.. From my memory, the puppet master was originally a smart program designed to seek out information or spy for the country.. But after seeking information for so long, it became self aware and alive.. It was a mind, a person, a intellegent being, with no body.. This was probably what the project was.. After the puppet master became self aware, it started looking for a suitable body.. But none sufficed except when he found the Heroin.. At the end, his ghost merged with hers.. This is why at the end, she says that she is no longer the same person, but a new reborn person.. Strange indeed.. But quite interesting none the less.. I may be wrong on a few details, but maybe it will all clear up after I watch the movie again..

Akira was also such an anime where you sometimes needed to watch it more than once to really understand the storyline..

you know the kewl thing about anime's is that they can draw whatever they want... they can create great storylines wich simply aren't possible right now (with visueal effects) and the anime drawing style simply rules =)

Something like that, I totally forgot, but I did have to watch it a second time cause the first time was like 2 years ago and I wanted to see it again! (I love complex plots) I think I might watch it again! I only truly did understand it the second time...

Oh yeah I have it on DVD cause Manga deserves the money for this one...

ok, was the puppetmaster working for Section 6, or was project 2501 to capture the puppetmaster...or was the puppetmaster project 2501?? oh, and was the puppetmaster the dude that stepped out of the black chopper they were observing from the bushes, or was that a diplomat? OR was the puppetmaster the asian dude that popped up on the screen when the dude from Section 9 was hacking into the Section 6 database after the life-form was stolen from them?

edit: or was the head dude of Section 6 lying about the puppetmaster ever being alive and an internationally recognized criminal, and in actuality he was simply a program that Section 6 had been using for illegal activities all along and the puppetmaster was just a fabricated character...?

i remember that they say in the film that everyone thought project 2501 was made to catch the puppetmaster... but as someone says the project started a full year before the puppetmaster appeared... the project 2501 was just an espionage thing or so and the so called "puppetmaster" was just a program wich was used to hack into other people brain's section 6 has nopthing speacial to do with it... it's just that the heroine worked there.. oh and the puppetmaster "was" (if you wanna call it like that) inside the blond women wich was ripped apart.. because the people from section 9 (i think) managed to get him into that body... *phew* for me it makes sense... quite a bit....

The puppet master was never human.. It was a computer program created by the project to do espionage and hack.. But along the way it started learning a great deal and gaining huge amounts of information.. It became sentient you could say.. So it was an AI roaming around cyberspace.. And it could get into robots and control their ghosts(AI).. The government wanted to destroy it before the truth came out... But the puppet master's AI merged with the Heroin's..

they represent it as a soul or spirit

yeah, the ghost is used as a defining line of sorts for what is human and what isn't. Major had issues throughout the movie because so much of her physical self was cybernetic, yet she had a ghost.
