The state of Emuforums

It has come to my attention recently that emuforums sucks. Let's face it. I won't go into a long tirade about how much, or who's responsible, even though I feel the need to yell at someone for messing this place up so much. But I ask that the admins do something to clean this place up. Because this has to be the least pleasant board on Earth.

My question; Where di all the senior, better, older, experienced posters go? Those who r still here don't post as much as they used to, giving the so called LAMERS a chance of Laming.

I am particular about Xeven, Ryos, Kane, Shiori, Bgnome and a few other that I can't remember.

If admins are too busy to take out the lamers here is a suggestion.

We want that old ranking system back.If members think that someone is doing injustice to the boards he can be voted out/banned on a certain number of votes against him.To keep the thing under control one shouldnt be able to see who voted (keep it hidden).

I'm mostly hanging out in Filipino community messageboards in the meantime as long as the situation here leaves a lot to be desired.

but that leaves room for the lamers to do a massive voting lame, and that would be err well bad unless you restricted the power to vote to people say over 500 - 600 posts (atleast then they show some form of non-lame quality).

Either that, or as disscused before, add some new mods, as sometimes the boards go very mod/admin quite.

Sadly from what I know every board suffers lamers, but not half as bad as the old Nemu board (the one that was on their site) that place was FAR WORSE than thsi.

It was removed due to some awkward looking rainbow colors and due to the fact that people were able to see who voted (some people took it really seriously).

Where are the older posters you say?
Well, they're bored by all the lamers around here, and since no one does anything about them, they leave, that's my case,I've been here since the reopening of the boards in April 2k1(and a bit on the older boards),but I must say that nowadays,Emuforums kinda sucks, too much lamers, spamers and such(I miss the good old days when I could just flame that small monkey,fanjun99,man,was he dumb ,anyone remembers that ? ).

i'm sure that the following has already been discussed in-depth, but just incase...

how about, a rating system along the same lines would be this. a users ratings are weighted by his own rating (new users have no weight whatsoever). obviously mods/admins etc can only be rated by their peers etc.
it might be quite a ***** to implement, but thats not my field of expertise.

feel free to point out any flaws

Actually I recall something like that being in place. It went out the door. Way too divisive an idea. People pitch fits over stars and titles enough as is. I'll have to agree with Raziel about where the older posters went. Yes, I do recall fanjun99. =)

I recall the long long threads with the monkey, a strange smile, shiori, ryos, gerbil, Asfaloth, Beta, raziel etc, ahh those where truly days, even modern greats such as lord kane, and that post racing mad man Mr Urt, tch what did happen eh?

Oh and of course not to forget little old me!! 0_o I think the mods should just kill off the lamers quickly, without warnings etc, though I have to admit newbies would have to be treated like usual, because everyone makes the odd mistake (eheh)

Well Bobbi and I talk all the time .. and well he knows about the problem, but feels as though it is something that comes with a successful board. I agree to some point, but I its hard to see how successful it is when so many complain about the way it is. Before it ever got this way many of us made tons of suggestions on making it better. Now it is too late because if we did want to control the major problem a lot more people are going to be pissed and open up all kinds of new problems. Imagine the people that we do ban, most of the time they come back with a different proxy, and register again causing us more work and making the board even worse. The problem should have never went ignored, the test/spam thread should have never been created, and the one person who actually owns this board should have used more force, and control to stop this instead of just letting it go as being part of a successful board.

With regards to this being a successful board, that I can agree with, it is/was fantastic, but now needs a quite spell, or shuting down to be re-organised and to let Bobbi work at his own pace cleaning things up, or perhaps it should be closed to all but a few people who can test his ideas and new site structure, by doing that, people could take on spamming and mod roles, to test how the site would cope, and by beta-testing the new structure perhaps get out the kinks and any more future flaws, I am going to stick around rather than just plain give up, and try to help this GREAT site recover if I can, and perhaps this will help!

So to put it simply, close the site, to all but a few selected people (say 20-30 people), then re - design the structure of it, cut out the lamers etc, and then use the 20-30 people left, to test the board, then re-open the site to everyone else, that way hopefully it will be like breathing new life into this giant.
