Post Androids maybe a closer to the present....

Holy snipe! Look what Sony is making!

Sony unveils new SDR-4X robot.

This really connects with the joke at Megatokyo that Sony will produce an android.

i would never get a robot that could overpower me if it got a virus or sumthing
but if it does go crazy and i could kick it down the street, sure

Jeez that thing is expensive. I would like to have it though. It's quite cool. Or so it seems. Hope the price lowers to about 300 US

Those apparently aren't the only robots being released...:

Sanyo, Matsu****a unveil security, cleaning robots

Tuesday, March 26, 2002 at 09:30 JST
OSAKA — Matsu****a Electric Industrial Co and Sanyo Electric Co separately unveiled prototype security and cleaning robots on Monday.

Sanyo introduced a prototype quadruped robot guard to maintain security at homes and offices at night, while Matsu****a unveiled a prototype robot to clean rooms.

Jointly developed with venture business Tmsuk Inc, Sanyo's robot has a built-in sound sensor enabling users to control its moves via mobile phone, the company said.

The robot also has a built-in camera to capture images of its surroundings.

The "Type 1" model is 75 centimeters long and weighs 40 kilograms. The Type 2 is 1 meter long and weighs 35 kg. The Type 2 can also climb a step about 10 cm high.

Sanyo plans to put the new robot on the market in fiscal 2003 at prices expected to be in a range from 500,000 to 1 million yen.

Matsu****a's robot cleans rooms while avoiding furniture and other barriers.

Matsu****a will begin tests on the box-shaped robot, which weighs 9.8 kg, at homes in May so as to introduce a practical model in a few years for about 500,000 yen.

I want a cleaning robot.

I want that cleaning robot too. But I hope that robot doesn't tell on my parents when it finds my "secret stash o' porn".

An android like that would be truly sweet. It is interesting to see the progress they are making tho.

i can see it now. sony sells the robots, and the robots go out shopping for a whole bunch of Sony products when you're not home because they've been secretly programmed to. Sony's smart.
