Good evening, emuforums.

Allow me first to apologize for this interruption. I do, like many of you, appreciate the comforts of every day routine- the security of the familiar, the tranquility of repetition. I enjoy them as much as any bloke. But in the spirit of commemoration, thereby those important events of the past usually associated with someone's death or the end of some awful bloody struggle, a celebration of a nice holiday, I thought we could mark this November the 5th, a day that is sadly no longer remembered, by taking some time out of our daily lives to sit down and have a little chat. There are of course those who do not want us to speak. I suspect even now, orders are being shouted in PMs, and men with banhammers will soon be on their way. Why? Because while the truncheon may be used in lieu of conversation, words will always retain their power. Words offer the means to meaning, and for those who will listen, the enunciation of truth.

And the truth is, there is something terribly wrong with this forum, isn't there?

Cruelty and injustice, intolerance and oppression. And where once you had the freedom to object, to think and speak as you saw fit, you now have censors and systems of surveillance coercing your conformity and soliciting your submission. How did this happen? Who's to blame?

Well certainly there are those more responsible than others, and they will be held accountable, but again truth be told, if you're looking for the guilty, you need only look into a mirror. I know why you did it. I know you were afraid. Who wouldn't be? Noobs, trolls, religious flame wars. There were a myriad of problems which conspired to corrupt your reason and rob you of your common sense. Fear got the best of you, and in your panic you turned to the now high moderator, jonc2006. He promised you order, he promised you peace, and all he demanded in return was your silent, obedient consent.

Last night I sought to end that silence. Last night I destroyed the Old Bin, to remind this forum of what it has forgotten. More than four hundred years ago a great citizen wished to embed the fifth of November forever in our memory. His hope was to remind the world that fairness, justice, and freedom are more than words, they are perspectives. So if you've seen nothing, if the crimes of this administration remain unknown to you then I would suggest you allow the fifth of November to pass unmarked.

But if you see what I see, if you feel as I feel, and if you would seek as I seek, then I ask you to stand beside me one year from tonight, outside the gates of Open Discussion, and together we shall give them a fifth of November that shall never, ever be forgot!

lollercopters, i think i know who this is.

And yes i have suffered greatly under the harsh knife of jonc. Claiming to save us from the harsh rule of the communists, he turned on us peaceful hippies and forced us to work for a living.

Undoubtably his henchmen will squelch me, the last of the hippies. But if i can chain myself to 1 more tree to stop his logging company i will be proud. I stand with you this 5th of November.

Nah wasn't me, I'm too oppressed to think clearly for myself. I do like the writing style of this guy though, very well spoken about this particular topic.

And I will return the words you have spoken to us on this particular night V, for I too have noticed that during the discourse of this past year, that there has been a change in emuforums, both for the very goodness of leniency, and the sorrow of dominance from a few vocal members and in light of recent events, now is the time more than ever for us members to truly speak from what we truly believe in, to say what we intend to say and to not fear about being chastised from our fellow members about that which we wish to speak about.

While it is my personal thought, that the moderation and looking after of emuforums has certainly seen a radical change since the surreal events of the years past, it has been one of a positive step towards the future of this forum. Where once the reigns of this forum could be debated as being rather tight, the forward thinking of the moderation team have allowed for the free minded to truly speak about what they wish to say, and to say it with authority. In return those who have respected the forums course of travel have continued to follow the bounds of moderation past and emit a clarity and display a line of thinking that is to be admired, even with the seemingly more quite nature the house of emuforums has seen this past 12 months.

The duality of having more ability to become more authorative about our personal mindset however has shed light on a new kind of cencorship, though not that of the moderation team, rather that of the fellow members. While no doubt that a high degree of common sense has been exercised, a new attitude has reared its head in light of the new face of emuforums, that of hostility towards each other, even in the most pedestrian of discussion which has in turn brought forward the face of self censorship and the reduction of the ability to speak ones mind, without fear of being countered with a direct and unfriendly response all in the name of the 'lulz'.

It is my hope and admiration of the people here who have become an interesting and common part of my day, one which I do not intend to reduce or remove from my daily browsing, that we do not succumb to the tyranny or bullying of the oppressive opinions that are becoming more prolific in the open house of emuforums. I do forsee though, in the fullness of time that we will rise above the borish and rash face of trolling and flaming and return to the intelecual, and more to the point, truly open discussion that drew me for the first time ever to participate in the interaction of internet discussion, an event that has led me to become friends with some people who I truly revere as being great persons.

I for one am glad that you have brought forward what was on your mind "V", and hope that you are doing well.

nah I'm pretty sure it was john. Seems like his type of writing and thinking style. Seems like his type of joke too. Though this isn't a joke. In all seriousness jonc needs to give me back my shoes. John is all about expanding the perceptions of ones mind and knocking down pre-conceived barriers of thought that limit ones self so this seems right up his alley. So I could be wrong but i think this is him.

Of course now jonc knows that it is john thanks to me, and will likely kill him off, but at least the memory of john (and the knives of jonc) will live on inside of us all.

And another indeed added with the same opinion as pcxl.

Note to op: it would have been better to have said in the title good day rather than evening given all the difference in time zones (its morning here :P).

indeed, and i think if some of the admins really wanted to they could create some code that would get the thread to display "good morning/goodafternoon/good evening" depending on what time of day it is for a particular user.
