A classmate of mine did a blind study back in high school. Random students were polled by giving them 2 unmarked soft drinks; one was Pepsi, the other was Coca-Cola. All students were able properly identify when the 2 drinks they were given were different brands (i.e. Coke first, then Pepsi) and when given the same drink twice in a row (i.e. Pepsi and then Pepsi again). Most (>96%) of the students were able to properly identify which soft drink was which. I find that Pepsi is sweeter and uses less carbonation. The carbonation is what especially gives it away to me. Pepsi "feels" smoother when you drink it and also seems to use a lighter but sweeter corn syrup sweetener. I find that Arabian 7-up, Sprite, and Mountain Dew all taste better than their state-side counter parts.

Unless you by from WholeFoods, which is greatly overpriced, it wouldn't matter if you cooked your own food as even raw materials in U.S. grocery stores are made from horribly cheap materials... Also, why would you work at Subway and NOT eat it???? Not that Subway is gourmet, but they at least use the better of the crap materials :P:P:P |

Coca Cola. When I'm out I'll take whatever is available, but when given the choice, I'm a Coke man myself. The taste is more defined. What I also find really interesting is how different Coke tastes based on the country/location you're in. Honestly, I think the quality of the water has alot to do with which is superior. Compared to England and Northern Italy the Coke/Pepsi here is noticeably inferior. |

Why don't the poll and first post in this thread match? The poll is asking if you can tell the difference, and the post is asking which you prefer. A better poll would have been to ask which you prefer since if you have a preference, you can tell the difference. It would have been implied in the question. Anyways... coke is better, but I don't really drink soft drinks.

I don't really like the taste of either Coke or Pepsi and are lucky to have a can of each maybe a few times in a year if there is nothing else to drink, but I would have to say *flips coin* Coca-Cola.

coke is alot better than pepsi. back in my highschool statistics class, we did a blind taste test with coke VS pepsi. i never had compared them side-by-side till that day. thats when i learned how much better coke tastes (before that day i was under the assumption that i liked pepsi better). pepsi is more watery and coke is more flavorful.

Here are some quotes from the programme: MT -> Mark Thomas RM -> Read Montague - Prof. Neuroscience Baylor College of Medicine MT: "They (Coca-Cola) even had a campaign called 'H2No', and more recently 'Cap The Tap' where Coca-Cola guides restaurants on how to suggestively sell fizzy pop over water. The company uses its $2,000,000,000 a year advertising budget so you can't escape its logo. From outer space to the London underground, it's everywhere. It was even painted on the Himalayas, for which they were fined for environmental damage. So I'm on my way to Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas to have my head tested. This is where scientists have been studying consumers emotional response to brands. First of, I'm doing the 'Coca-cola/Pepsi Challenge'." RM: "You've just done the Pepsi challenge." MT: "And how did I come out?" RM: "You came out square in the middle, just like everybody else. You had cups lined up in front of you. There was Coca-cola in one and Pepsi-cola in the other. You weren't told which was which, you tasted both and voted with your behaviour; I like the one on the right, I like the one on the left, etc. And although as I know because we've had a conversation earlier that you like Coca-cola, and would trade your money for it in a store, you came out absolutely neutral. Your nervous system couldn't tell the difference between the two." MT: "It turns out I can't taste the difference between Pepsi and Coca-Cola, just like the scores of others Dr. Montague has tested over the last three years, yet I say I prefer coke.” MT: “Brands actually have a taste?” RM: “Brands have a taste.” MT: “This kind of brain scanning to test the efficacy of advertising is called neuro-marketing. Advertising folk call it 'The Buy Button'. When it was revealed that some American companies were conducting just these kind of experiments, it caused a furore, because it suggested advertisers could insinuate messages into a person's brain. Coca-cola has refused to confirm or deny it was one of those companies involved.” Last edited by capo_2k; September 29th, 2009 at 01:35.. |
