Just managed to convince my dad to watch Basic with me, my dad of course did not like it much, way too much profanity, but I loved it. 3rd time I watched it, and it sill manages to screw with my brain and still brings it to a crashing halt at the end.
9/10 for Basic

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1990)

Starting out as a comic and branching forth to become one of the big cartoon phenoms of the early 1990's, with merchandise flying off the shelves and kids dying to get their hands on all the toys, it can be easy to assume that the big screen debut of the 4 turtles and their master rat, Splinter would be aimed squarely at the childrens market, however in keeping with the spirit of the comic book, the film has retained a dark look and feel while exploring the isolation of 4 adolescent minds who cannot under any circumstance be accepted by the known world. Once their master is kidnapped by the Foot clan, a group of ninja thieves who have a striking similarity to a group from japan it is up to the 4 teenagers to rescue him and stop the impending threat of the foot.

Well directed with quite advanced puppetry from the legendary Jim Henson studios, this film is quite enjoyable with a mix of humor, turmoil, loss, defeat, triumph and ass kicking action. A stirring sound track manages to balance out the film and the voice acting is quite superb.

There was plans of this film being released as R rated, and there are signs throughout the film where the cuts have been made, however even at M rating the film does not disappoint. It would be nice to see the film in its uncut glory however.

9.4/10

M rating? I'm guessing that's part of the Australian movie rating system, and not the ESRB video game rating M.

Australia has G, PG, M15+, MA15+ and R18+ ratings for films and for video games. So M is basically PG13 for Americans methinks.

If I recall correctly, the film was M in the cinema, but it is PG for the DVD release.

Yes, but their faces were made with animatronics. Modern day puppeteering, I suppose.

Oh right, its been a long time since I saw them... And now that I think about it, wasn't the rat master made with puppet?

Going to watch Dark Knight tomorrow or the day after that...

Yeah, Splinter the rat was completely done with electronic puppetry and was quite convincing with facial expressions and movements considering the old techniques used. Now a days with all that fancy CG going on it is quite refreshing to watch an older film where special effects were done on the spot rather than through a computer during editing.

I'm pretty sure Yoda in Star Wars IV-VI was a puppet just like Splinter too.

You are spot on there. Yoda's puppetry was done by Industrial Light and Magic and had consultation from Jim Henson's Creature Shop.

Dark Knight - 9/10

Well I liked it more than Batman Begins... But to me the biggest mistake in batman begins was he dumb ninja thing in the beginning, league of shadows or smt. Otherwise it was around as good as this one... Hope they don't screw up the well made concept when they do the next movie, they've done it before...

A Civil Action 5/10

A half-score for a half-finnished movie. Ok I know it's not always honey and roses in real life and this one is based on a true story so that may be it. But why someone would want to watch a movie about something which ultimately goes nowhere is beyond me. There comes the point in a usual movie of this sort when everything goes downhill and pretty much all hope is lost...and then the miraculous turnabout happens...this one just ends...well they do give you an epilogue of what happened from then till now...but it basically just compounds their failure...
At the very least it would have been nice to add say 10-20 minutes on to just show you a little of the appeal a few years down the line...but they just flash the info on screen for a few seconds...and that's it.

I finally saw Iron Man. It was cute. I didn't really understand why if the power source was just keeping metal out of his heart, why he didn't have any power for his body without it. (I'm phrasing that badly.)

I say 7/10.

Prince Caspian just came in the mail. Could ya'll quit making the forum busy so I have time to go watch it? Thanks.

A CS Lewis movie....damn guys we gotta raise the roof off this place so that she never gets a chance to watch it! or at least until someone can steal or break it...

I can't stand CS Lewis...his books whilst meant protray the easter miracle in a more fun way are just pure evil...and the way the movies were done show that...hell the Visuals are more PG/violent/evil in the redone The Lion, the witch and the wardrobe than LOTR is...
