Either he's waving the white flag or he's one of the first few rats jumping ship.

He probably was just offered a better CEO position in another company. CEOs move here and there all the time.

They don't? What the hell? I guess that's why RPGs are so popular...

He is going to Atari... I don't call it a "better position".
Ask if he wants to work for Nintendo.

Either way, this is a bad new for Sony.

Don't you find it strange Sandy ?..... Its funny, because Sony seems in alot better position then they were 8 months ago before the price drop of the ps3 and the death of HD-DVD.

Maybe Phil Harrison is like the husky on the tv show " The Littlest Hobo " where he wanders around from city to city (or in this case company to company) and helps them out of dire straits before moving on to help someone else. YouTube - "Littlest Hobo" The ultimate TV show!

I fully expect the Atari Jaguar 2 to become the dominant console in the next console generation.

No, I don't. He was working for Sony for 15 YEARS. I mean, he didn't start there yesterday. He helped to create Playstation, he was president there. He doesn't need money either, so I doubt he left Sony because ATARI will pay more...
My point is: he wasn't happy with the way Sony is going and quitted it before it was too late. Blue-ray won! Big deal, nobody buys a PS3 ONLY to watch movies, ppl buy consoles to play games. Like he said:

He was frustrated. This is what everybody is saying:

Now, I ask you. Why would he drop HIS project? A successful project that made Sony beat Nintendo on "Nintendo's field" for 2 generations. He wanted to bring this idea of "fun" to Sony and Sony didn't listen to him. Now he is seeing that he was right and the other company is back to the top, while "his" project (Playstation) is "falling". How would you feel about this?

Stop calling me Sandy.

He said "playing on the same sofa", that's not really what MMOs do naw?

(it would take one HELLA BIG sofa to have everybody on the server play together )

I can't blame him if that's the reason he left. I think it'll be a while before Blu Ray becomes mainstream. I received a DVD player as a Christmas gift from my mother BEFORE I purchased a PS2. I was impressed with DVD over VHS, but like many, I don't have HDTV, and I could easily settle for SDTV, which really doesn't make heavy use of Blu Ray.

Maybe in a number of years when HDTVs become more common, and analogue TVs are no longer made or supported, the majority of people will want Blu Ray, but I think that will take a number of years.

I have to admit, I want a gaming machine for fun games and so far the PS3 just doesn't do it except for Ratchet and Clank, and that doesn't make me want to go out and spend $400+...

Yeah, that's what everybody wants. Who buys a console to watch movies? Nobody. We buy consoles to play games. If the console has a movie (DVD/Blue-Ray) player, awesome, we have a new add-on. But it's not a new motive to buy it.
"Oh, I'll buy a PS3 because Blue-Ray won the war against HD-DVD." This war will not (are not) affect(ing) the gaming industry.
Who buys a PS3 nowadays, buys it to play FF, MG, GT.... not to watch Hulk in Blue-Ray.
