Talking CKemu's Future Trip to Tokyo

Well as the title suggests, I'm off to Japan, in roughly one months time for a ten day holiday. Planning on spending most of my time in Tokyo, but also visiting Kyoto for its temples, history and of course the Manga Museum!

Going to climb Fuji-San - I don't mean half way up to take some pictures and pretend to have done it, I mean all the way to its summit, despite the fact it will be the first mountain I've climbed! (gulp)

Aside from the obvious overly photographed spots like Shinjuku's night skyline, Kyoto's famous Golden Temple etc I intend on using my 12MP camera and the 8GB of memory I'll be packing to take a variety of images which really depict not only the infamous and oft stereotyped Japanese culture, but Japanese life in general!

This trip is partly to aid me in getting used to Japanese culture as I will be moving out there as a teacher hopefully later this year (assuming my final teaching course goes well!).

Now this trip is a month away, so why the thread? Well I'm currently writting a series of notes (to take with me), on places I want to see, things I want to experience etc..and no not the soap girls, though that'd be an entertaining option!

When I've been on this trip I'll post my experiences and photos here, along with a first person perspective on what Tokyo/Japan is really like!

So if you've been to Tokyo/Japan, or indeed live there, what would you recommend I photograph and experience? Noting I am fairly familiar with Japanese culture in general, so looking for those more "out of the way" or "hidden gems" that I might overlook.

Sofar a few "must see's":

Harajuku - Yoyogi Park - Cosplay / Fashion: Got to visit on a Sunday to witness a cosplay mecca!

Shibuya - Shopping / Fashion: Its neon night sky, the 109 store (female only afaik, not sure?)

Akihabara - Otaku and Everything gaming! - Arcades, Otaku culture, anime/manga stores, MAIDS!

Ikebukuro - Home of Jean Snows "Cafe Pause" and various exclusive fashion houses and some nice parks!

Shinjuku - Again its sky line, with the TMG building as a view point, though not familiar with some of its more subtle points. Given it'll be the end of march, probably visit "Shinjuku Gyoen" for its cherry blossoms.

I'll be staying in Akasaka, so only a stones throw from Roppongi, however Roppongi is aimed at westerners, so I'd rather avoid it mostly, but I'd like to go clubbing - whilst avoiding "No foreigners" signs, I know there's a fairly famous club or two in the Tokyo bay area, but thats one hell of a treck when erm ..well potentially drunk!..So nightlife tips would be handy!

So I'm guessing you're going to fondle the school girls in the trains?

Remember those trains get packed so if your hand happens to "slip", no one would notice

lol theres inforcers on the lookout for that.

Btw, if you have a camera phone, the "click" noise has to be enabled. This to deter upskirts anyway, i doubt your phone will run on their networks. youre probably going to have to do most of your communication on the internet.

Taking my phone only as a alarm and to be used before and after the holiday (airport etc).

PSP, headphones, Camera (bought specifically for this trip) are the basic electric goods I am taking, bunch of clothes, a phrase book, my notepad and plenty of space for moogle cuddlies and random crap I buy!

I might visit Inuyama, for its castle, given its direct link to "Oda Nobunaga".

you pretty much covered the highlights afaik. Just try to keep in mind that japan is NOT the happy place you see in anime. This is the place with the highest suicide rate in the world. All those anime are there just to convince kids to try to last past highschool. Oh yeah. Oh yeah, could you say hi to old man fujiki in shinjuku. You would immediately recognise him if you saw him. He runs a portable okonomiyaki stand around the tokyo metropolitan building.

Thankfully I've never followed much anime, so my impression of Japan is alittle more rounded, if I spot any salarymen jumping, I'll be sure to grab a picture or two! ...Old man Fujiki near the TMG Building..erm, okay...I think.

Whilst I plan to visit Yokohama, sailors are not on my list, unless they're cute school girls
