This is getting ridiculous.

It is tragic, but still ridiculous:

The gunman who fatally shot five students before killing himself in a Northern Illinois University lecture hall, likely planned his murder spree at least a week in advance, investigators said today.

The graduate student bought two of his four guns at a Champaign, Ill., gun store Saturday — indicating that he had been planning his assault for at least six days, ABC News' Richard Esposito and Pierre Thomas report. The other weapons were purchased from the same store in December and August 2007...
I give it two months to happen again.

I agree. It will be more likely to occur once again and it could even take 2 months or possibly more.

im not really sure what good stricter gun laws are going to do here. you take guns away from these types of people and they will just use the next thing in reach: bombs, knives etc. taking their guns away isnt going to discourage them, it may lessen the overall damage when something like this occurs but for even 1 person to be killed, thats more than too many.

But at least bombs/knives has less damage potential, and people can at least defend against it, even more if there are lots of people.

Yeah, but it would turn it harder for them. And it's just an idea.
BTW, a student can't kill 5 ppl with a knife so easily.

1 person killer is more than too many, I agree, but 4 lives could have been saved.
We are talking about human lives here. So we will sell guns because they will continue killing, but using knives instead? Oh, at least one person will die, but how many ppl (more) will have to die because a crazy guy has a fu..ing gun.

A lot of country have about 25 or 16 weapons for every 100 person.

In America, it's about 93 weapons for every 100 person.

SOMEHOW I think there's a correlation, THINK YOU NOT?

Stricter weapon laws would reduce crime rates, AT LEAST. And lower crime rates would have a good effect on society. And a good effect on society would have a good effect on everybody, which would AT LEAST help A LITTLE with shootouts.

The US gun stock: results from the 2004 national firearms survey -- Hepburn et al. 13 (1): 15 -- Injury Prevention

In the US, about one in four adults owns at least one firearm. Although some other developed countries have similar rates of personal firearm ownership, what is unique in the US is the number of firearms privately owned. Researchers have estimated about 25 guns per 100 people in countries such as Canada, New Zealand, Germany, France and Sweden.16 On the basis of current estimates from our survey, the US has 93 guns per 100 people.

If America and Americans in general are stupid enough to have laws that allow pretty much everyone to own a firearm, then frankly they deserve the bloodshed it causes.

So you think that all the country's citizens must pay because of a few politicians? Policitians that (a long time ago, and this is very important. This is not fault of those who created it, it's fault of those who maintain it) made a law allowing anybody (including criminals and crazy ppl), who wants, to buy a gun.

Well, say that to the families that just lost a brother or a son.

But it's the country's citizens themselves who elected those politicians and kept them there for... Many many many years.

It's their jobs as citizens to say that they're not happy if they want stuff to change AND to get new politicians if those already elected don't listen.

Right now citizens are too busy complaining without really DOING something to make stuff change.

The CounterStrike attitude. Nuff said, and dont even bother challenging this one, games really do have a subconcient influence on people's behavioral patterns (the same way omnipresent violence-based movies inhibited everyone to scenes that wouldve been unacceptably shocking just a decade ago. this could be discussed on the scientific level, but no need to go this far to explain the thing over a mere fait divers)...

i dont think seeing violence is even the problem. i think seeing violence as a solution, to solve a problem, is what is putting out such a bad message.

@jonc: youre right. its like people who coomit suicide (as this guy eventualy did) they think theres no way out. there screwed inside there own minds. as maciavelli said, once you blow your enmies mind, its vastly easier to blow his body away.

i may not be the best looking person. i may not have the most money. but you can bet your bottom dollar that if a problem with my life pops up, ill find a way to deal with it other than grabbing a gun and shooting random people for not contributing to my problems

I hate these kind of people the most. If you want to go kill yourself, go do it alone. Those people had nothing to do with their problem, completely innocent by standers. God damn cowards, if they want to be shot so much, I'm sure there are many anguished families who would be willing to carry out the deed...

P.S.
Had a really long day today and I'm a bit frustrated, so pardon the harsh response.

Making stricter gun laws is NOT going to help lower crime rate. Guns use in more serious crimes are rarely bought legally. Also, if less people have guns, then the army would have an easier time of taking over if such an attempt ever started, as nearly every democracy to exist to this point has turned communist. There is a city in the US that REQUIRES everyone over 18 to own a gun and carry it with them. The crime rate in that city is an amazing 0%! Imagine if a student started threatening a school with a gun. The teachers would just tell the students to get into the class rooms, and then would be able to take care of the problem on their own instead of having to wait for the cops.
