PSO v2 online

Hey everyone,

I have to quickly say that this emulator is simply amazing. Plugins are great. Compatibility is great. And the updates in store for it are really quite useful.

I've picked up PSO v2 again, after playing the newer version for a long time on the cube. What got me back into it was the ability to unlimit the game speed. On nullDC I'm running it around 135% speed pretty constantly, though it fluctuates. Removing the tiresome, slow, and methodical movement was a major plus for the game.

Anyhow... I've been looking at online play for it. Schthack has dreamcast servers for it, and logically, it could eventually be possible to play among dreamcast users. I'm looking forward to that day. Meanwhile, I fiddled with nullDC's netplay and examined the server. Since netplay runs on an IP basis, could it be possible to convince it to connect to a DNS address? Theres no port, so I'm guessing that it'd be impossible.

^_^; I guess I don't know much about servers...

So would allowing players to connect to a server like Schthack's be a big difference from the current state of netplay?

Thats my question...

If you really, really want to play on the private servers, I recommend finding the PC version of PSO V2 and just use that.

Netplay working by IP doesn't mean PSO would work online. IP is simply a transport medium, the application would still need to talk the correct language over that medium. I don't see the emulator doing that anytime soon.

Netplay may be able to resolve dns , i dont remember exactly atm ...There are no plans for BBA/Modem emulation atm, but the plugin interface exists so its not too hard

Or get a cheap Dreamcast and play PSO on the private server

I already thought about both of these options... but like I said earlier, I've played the gamecube version. The reason I'm back into it is because it runs faster, getting the PC version or getting a normal dreamcast will plug the speed back down to normal.. ^_^;
But thanks for the ideas!

Running the game client in a hacked sped-up way couldn't be healthy online.

If you want to go online you'd have to play at the default speed anyway, so you may as well use the PC version.
