Fix Buggy Noise In Vista!!!!
Found out how to fix it. It turns out some things you edit in the program don't actually edit in the config file. It's an easy fix so please, don't fall in love with me haha.. Edit the nullDC.CFG in notepad, or whatever. DefaultImage=defualt.cdi [nullAica] BufferSize=1024 <------ EDIT THIS LINE with "2048" LimitFPS=1 HW_mixing=0 SoundRenderer=1 VOILA! p.s. if you having a saving problem, uncheck the "read-only" property for the nullDC folder.. and if that doesnt work, you have to allow folders to show extensions, and rename the nullDC.cfg to nullDC.cfg.bak and your edit version of it to XXX.CFG to nullDC.cfg. If that doesn't work, then just double it too, 4096 and your sound will only rarely be choppy.. ------------------------ EDIT APRIL 6, 2007 ------------------------ Quote:
I too have a RealTek HD onboard card, everything works fine over here. This should solve almost all the problems, since, its the only thing I had to do after fresh install of vista.. Let me know of any problems you people might be having. We're gonna get this working on VISTA since, I can't seem to find my XP cd anymore!!! Last edited by drkIIRaziel; April 7th, 2007 at 10:56. The above thing works like a charm however for those still having problems. If you are using a sound card that allows you to select the default format for the sound output it should be set to 44100 Hz, I have a Realtek High Definition Audio on-board soundcard and if this setting is higher the sound in nullDC will probably be bad. Don't know if this issues is for my soundcard only or if it works on others but it's worth a shot.

Sound is kinda buggy still (tried both 2048 and 4096). E.g. in the Shenmue title screen it sounds a bit like electric noise (I don't know how else to describe it). And when the sound changes (e.g. when the Dreamcast logo fades out and another logo appears) there's a small glitch sound. But mostly the sound is ok. Audio comes from my ASUS Commando add-on card Supreme FX (using an ADI 1988B sound CODEC). Sound is set to 16bit / 44000 Hz. I have no problems with audio in any other applications (like iTunes, WMP, Oblivion and more). EDIT: It might be that they have decreased sound quality in the Shenmue image itself (I believe that was very common when they started ripping DC games). What leads me to believe this is that the CDI file is only 700MB big. Last edited by MrGarrison; April 8th, 2007 at 14:52. |

I too experience some buggy noise with some games, I.E. BIOHARZARD 3 which doesnt work anyways haha. As far as the intro screen, thats perfectly normal, yeah even the DC itself does that. For the most part though it's fixed most all of my other game sound problems too a near perfection. I think it might just be your soundcard or maybe the emulator itself and the game your playing.

how old is your computer. Ofcourse its going to have an effect on gameplay, but, what would you rather, fed up audio or a little lag here and there. Maybe you should consider an upgrade. I haven't experienced lag with this, but it is possible with older machines.

core2duo 2 ghz. 2 gig ram geforce 7400. Interestingly setting it to 1536 fixed the sound crackling and fps issues. |

Sorry if I sound so inexperienced, but what is (and where can I find) nullDC.CFG? I'm trying to run Kingdom Hearts with my Vista, and the graphic and FPS works smooth, but the sound really ruins it, as it sounds so glitchy (it's kind of like echoing) :P So if I follow the above direction, would I be able to fix the problem? Thank you

When did they ever release Kingdom Hearts for the DC? I think you're in the wrong forum. On another note, my computer is a Core 2 Duo with 2GB RAM and GeForce 7600GT and the audio fix works like a charm. I have no FPS issues.

Is there a way to disable just the sound effects?

Do you mean so you can just hear the music? I think that would depend on if the game lets you. I don't think you can do it from the emulator. There is the empty aica plugin if you just want to disable sound all together, but it makes things run too fast, so might as well use the mute button.
