I, and many others, are with you Raz. Vista sucks in every way and XP can look plenty sexy if you know what you're doing. XP is old but not rusty. It functions better than Vista, so how could it be rusty. But anyway, lets not get into a Vista vs. XP debate. We all know what works best for ourselves.

Well, direct sound support for vista is pretty bad and theres nothing i can do about that.I'm not gona rewrite working code because dsound has more lag under vista, its not my problem .That said i do have a vista laptop and sound just works perfect with it.

*edit*
I dont want to sound 'anti-vista' or smth, its just i prefer to work on parts of the emu that need work than trying to work around problems that arent on my code.

I have Vista and my sound has been fine. So directsound is simply slower under Vista? Well that is the price you pay for using a more demanding OS. You need the specs to match it. I am sure better video card would give him back the fps he lost. Anyone who plays games on their PC should at least have a mid range card, which would be more than plenty for this emu. As you can see from my sig, I am an avid PC gamer.

i have same "clicking" noise in nulldc when i play mortal kombat gold !!

after setting buffer to 2048 or 4096 it becomes better but not enough.
then i tried the older 1.0 beta1 nulldc from 1.april and now its working nearly perfect under vista 32bit with creative x-fi soundcard !

maybe this will help you to correct in next 1.7 beta release

Get me a hardware accelerated or at least a no-tearing UI (doesnt matter if its 2d or flip-3d as long as it has functioning vertical sync), and application specific volume control for XP.

Till you do that, Vista is better out of the two.

edit: and you complain about sound problems when you own a Creative card? Thats the most hilarious irony ever.

I agree. Most problems with Vista are driver related. So stop bashing Vista because everybody else is doing it.

The fact that the audio stack was .. butchered isnt driver related.Enjoy your software accelerated, laggy audio

Hardware acceleration is possible under vista. Just use OpenAL. Microsoft just changed the way audiostack works. Yep, there is no Direct Sound now, only emulation, but there are alternativites here!
LoL, when people forget about xp already?
Look how pcsx2 team working. They trying to implement dx10 features, pete's spu plugins didn't have sound problems in vista, etc. Also there are workarounds for dsound like Alchemy from Creative and SoundBack from Realtek. So stop blaming vista already

Vista was Microsoft shooting itself in the foot. As for DX10, the only reason there's no XP version is because M$ WON'T implement it. Not to mention that Redmond crippled it to satisfy Hollywood.

Sound is nearly perfect under Vista with nulldc1.0.0 beta 1.6. Just set the buffer to 2048.

But the sound is crappy with the new 1.3 release (it sounds like an old tv). The emulation is slower too (longer loading time in Soul Calibur).

I'll stick to the old beta until it is fixed

I think the problem with DX10 is that it would cause them to rewrite alot of the gdi system XP uses which would break compatibility for people running XP on ancient video cards like the TNT2 or something. Not to mention they want people to use vista.

Providing d3d10 for xp has nothing to do with gdi, they have a way to use different rendering contexes (like they do for opengl ).While d3d10 as an intergrated part of the OS (with all the interprocess sharing features) needs quite some work, providing a core implementation where it can be used as a dedicated api (like opengl) requires minimal work from microsoft .They just want to force upgrade to vista and since there is no real competition on the OS market yet they do w/e they like ;p

Yeah it was proven that you could get DX10 in XP. The hard part was getting a DX10 game to recognize it was there. There was a company called Falling Leaf that was trying to do it. They ultimately gave up.
