NullDC 1.0.3 Sound Problems

I am experiencing choppy / popping sound problems with 1.0.3 that did not exist with previous version in the following games: -

Border Down
Cosmic Smash
Crazy Taxi
Crazy Taxi 2
Daytona 2001
Virtua Tennis
Virtua Tennis 2

I have tried various setting, but the sound problems still persist. Also increasing the buffer size above 1024 causes slowdown that didn’t exist before and slowdown / choppy sound on the bios screen! Any Idea’s

Disable Vsync from the configuration of your video card driver or increase the screen refresh rate above 60Hz (to 75 or 85 Hz).

I am running NullDC in an arcade machine with a real arcade monitor so setting the refresh rate above 60Hz is a no go! I don't have a Vsync option in the Video Card driver. The previous version didn't have this issue with these games. What has changed?

A lot of stuff changed. It might just be the plugins or the emu then. Try changing sound/gfx plugins and tell me if something worked for you.

I tried Elsemi's Plugin, but unfortunately that's worse.

The strange thing is that the new NullAICA actually fixes the few games I was having sound problems with in Beta 1.6. Guilty Gear X, Rippin Ridders and Bangai-O are all now perfect in 1.0.3. But games that worked before are choppy and popping

Goto your nulldc.cfg and increase your audiobuffer from 1024 to 2048

What is the solution? I have tried changing the audio buffer size and can categorically say that it does not solve my issues with the games listed above. A few games work perfectly with the new NullAICA and it fixes some that previously had problems, but the games listed above are having major sound problems on all settings.

I have just tried installing the latest Direct X Runtimes (Aug 08), but it didn't fix the problem. It's a real shame as the new version has fix graphics glitches in Crazy Tazi 2 etc, but the sound that previously worked 100% is now really bad.

Is there anyway to use the old (Nov 07) NullAICA with Nulldc 1.0.3 or would it create loads more problems?

Try to disable global focus, it doesn't make any sense I know but it fixed it for me. There seems to be some sort of problem when having sync audio and global focus on at the same time because it sets the fps to 58/48 which causes choppy sound.

Thanks for the suggestion Czez, but unfortunately disabling the global focus option doesn't solve my problems. I have also updated my sound drivers with the latest ones from the Asus website, but with no luck. Some games that didn't work before are now fixed and the sound works perfectly i.e. Guilty Gear X and Bangai-O, But a lot of games that used to have perfect sound with 1.6 beta are really bad i.e Border Down, Crazy Taxi 2. I've tried all the different settings and buffer sizes 1024, 2048 and 4096 and still get the problems.

I would really like to know if there is anyway to use the old NullAICA with 1.0.3?

Thanks
Andy

One thing I'm noticing is that a lot of the people posting problems here seem to have ATI based video cards. I wonder if the ATI Chipset just screws everything up beyond repair?

I don't think this is a graphics card issues, as I have seen two other people post the same problems and both have Nvidia cards.

Okay, after many many hours of debugging today i fixed that audio clicking problem .Turns out that it wasnt sound related. The same problem existed on beta 1.6, but due to varius problems on the volume handling it wasnt as aparent.

In short, sound quality will get a major boost.

Thanks, Thats excellent news. I'm running my sound though a Hi-Fi so I could really hear all the clicking/popping etc. I was getting that problem with Rez in 1.0.3. Does this fix help with the choppy sound / lag in games like Crazy Taxi 2, Border Down? For infomation I am running the DC Version of NullDC on XP, 32bit.

Thanks Again
