Transparency problem: fixable with gameshark?
I've been playing firered on 2.5c, and I've run into problems with the fog being nontransparent, leaving me to use crappy maze algorithms by head to find my way through pkmn tower and other areas.
And it got me wondering if it would be possible to just use a gameshark code to remove textures that are supposed to be transparent. Now, I have no idea of the complexity of something like this, but I figured it'd never hurt to ask. Is something like that remotely possible? |

It technically would be possible. It would be quite difficult, though.
You'd either have to: -Know how to make cheat codes in the first place. You then use this to find a way to search when there's fog and when there's not fog and hope that an address controls this. You'd also have to hope this address doesn't move when you go somewhere that has fog. -Know ASM and find the routines for enabling fog. You'd then nop these so that they never execute. So it's possible, but there's a possibility it will be beyond the hacking capabilities of you average code hacker... |

Interesting, it is possible this unemulated GFX is the reason for that other bug:

I disagree. I prefer the trading option over the transparency. I was merely trying to find a way to have the best of both worlds.
Anyhow, what I meant to ask was.. where do I start? Are there guides to becoming better at this kind of stuff? I have some programming knowledge, and wouldn't mind expanding that (since I can probably use it somewhere when applying for jobs in the future). |

You can also trade with VBA, just search for VBALink and it will work!
You could also try VBA-M, but its still in Alpha state so don't expect to much from its linking capabilities! EDIT: whoa... ImP0steR was faster!

You're my hero. Now all I gotta do is get the clock to work (found out how, gotta do it), and the link to work (found out how, gotta do it), and convert the save file (found out how, gotta do it, will probably be a pain in the lower rear).
