Can't burn working backups >_<

I want to burn backups of my games but my cd-drive can't burn below 8x. Everywhere I look, people say that 4x is the highest you can go. Is there any way around this? Model number is LITE-ON DVDRW 1693S.

This I know. I just wanted to ask if anyone here knew how I could find some way to force my drive to burn below 8x. I know what to do, my hardware just won't behave.

Since there hasn't been too many replies I decided to do a few hours of searching and found out that the only way to accomplish what I'm talking about is by flashing to a different firmware (hacked or otherwise). Unfortunately I haven't come across anything worth taking note of. If anyone has any ideas I'd surely appreciate it. Besides, of course, the obvious (buy a cdrom from a pawn shop that can burn at 1x).

Well i would just try to burn it at 8x and check if it works. If it does fine, if not investigate more.
