I was wondering if Psicture works on iso's or do you have to have the game in order for it to work.

To capture sprites from PSX games the fastest way to do it is to play it in ePSXe or some other emulator, slow the fps rate right down to maybe 1-10 fps, and then just hawk it with a screenshot program by taking a picture each time the sprite moves.

I did this for some Wildarms sprites so I could use them in RPG maker and it turned out pretty well.

OH, and be sure to run the game at true PSX resolution (640x480?) or the resolution that you want the sprites in (for RPGmaker I ran the games at 320x240), or else you'll get sprites that have pixels represented by multiple pixels in the screenshot and it'll just look terrible.

Ok, a few people are gonna get this: This thread is about ripping sprites from Gundam Battle Assault. There is little to no relevance of warez to the OP's original question. So why even bring it up? This forum is for help, not for drama. You be the judge. If it's an opcode error, maybe be harsh; if it's taking sprites then c'mon, why bother?

Well if you wanna blow off your own rules be my guest, but you typically say you don't want to help people with downloaded ISOs, and he admitted to downloading it...

Well I was in the OP's defense, but I see you tieded the thread up. /shrug

And Paratech, the difference is that in this thread the capturing of sprites had nothing to do with piracy. The thread with the guy asking about the Doctor 64 is more of the sort of thread that warrants the sort of reply you're used to.

Anyways to bring this thread back on topic, what were you planning to use the sprites for anyways, dennis?

Does that matter in this thread at all? Does it have anything to do with the task at hand? No. Why you continued to bring it up even after I deleted all posts regarding it is beyond me, but obviously you want to be heard, so here you go.

And the reason that matters for this thread is because it's not something trivial like how to get X game to work or similar; it's not something you can just read the FAQ and find out. This thread is not as easily answered, it's something that people can learn from. If it could be answered in one post, then let it be said, we can close this one up and be out of here.

I'd much rather tidy up the thread, keep it open, and then perhaps other people will get interested and then provoked to collaborate, and the general intelligence of everyone goes up when a solution is found. Of course, I could be all fire and brimstone and banish this thread to hell because of a (irrelevant) comment.

I am a human being, you know. It's not like as soon as you download a videogame you're immediately the scum of the internet. Think about people's feelings before you make decisions...just because we are on the internet does not mean we aren't interacting with real human beings

Yeah i did that

the robots jitter in the emulator so the stance comes out messed up and i am guessing the resoultion would 640x480 i ripped the animation on top with a resoultion of 320x240. Now I am trying to rip the sprites with the 640x480 but the robots share some colors with the background and it takes a while to erase the background. So i wanted to see if i could get the sprites with psicture.

That sprite came out pretty nicely. I also forgot to mention that it depending on the plugin you can get the pixels a bit sharper. I don't remember if opengl or software is better (probably opengl), so mess around with the video plugin/options for different results.

You could also try using a program to record the game as a video then split the frames into seperate pictures and do it that way (takes a bit more hard disk space but might be a bit easier).

the pixel are not that sharp because the resolution of the game is not 320x240. also i use this tool called animget that takes a pic every millisecond so i dont have to take a video and split it into frames. i have also heard of a program called artmoney that can actually disable the layers in emulators like epsxe but i have also no had succes with it
