is ePSXe still the best PSX emulator?

NESticle used to be one of the best NES emulators around, however, after it was abandoned, other emulators (perhaps most notably, Nestopia) began to take the lead.

Similarily, ePSXe used to, as I recall, be one of the best PSX emulators around. Since then, other emulators have had steady improvements made and now, I'm wondering... has any of them taken the thrown from ePSXe as "best PSX emulator"?

pSX = best IMO, however it doesn't support plugins so while the compatibility is great the graphics aren't as good

I use both ePSXe and pSX currently, both are great in their own respects.

I use PSXeven and PCSX a lot too, they are good in their own ways. There isn't really a "be all end all" PSX emulator--something might work in ePSXe that doesn't work in PSXeven, or vice versa. And you might hate or love the way that pSX works.

A better thing to ask would be more specific, like which game you want to play, your system specs, and what you want it to look like. Then it'll be easier to figure out what's the best for you.

IMO If you're looking to do straight up "PSX GAMING" go with the latest PSX emu
For graphics, sound, ect. tweaks go with EPSXE

No. There are some rather good newer emulators, but from what I've seen, ePSXe is still the most compatible one.
It's also true though that almost every emulator runs a few games that another one doesn't.

I only use SSSPSX and hope that the "read psx cd's directly when inserted" feature will be implemented in emu-raptor, then i'm completely satisfied.

Yeah but my idea was to make it read out the SLUS code of the cd, check if you already have a configuration for that game, if not ask if it should use the default one, or make a new one. Emu Raptor has the feature to make seperate configs for games, but no "auto run" support

probably because SSSPSX doesn´t have commands.... anyway there´s a way to do that without commands.

few weeks ago i sended you a small application which is able to auto-run playstation and dreamcast games...remember??? this application start the games when inserted and it doesn´t need commands to start the emu(ePSXe or Chankast) as everything is done on the fly(because it uses earlier A.E.S classes)..

if you want i can modify this application for you and add SSSPSX support.

Just to chime in my two cents...

I've tried a few, mostly on Linux. epsxe and pcsx were nice, but often resource hungry. The plugin-based emulators allow for a lot of fun tweaking and special graphics handling that, I'm sure, look real nice on the latest PC's.

But pSX wins when you're looking for an emulator for older PC's. pSX has been reported to work well, even on Pentium 3's. The 1.10 version for Windows, and one of the early Linux WIP's (work-in-progress) work very nicely on my Athlon Thunderbird 1200 PC.

So -- if you have an older PC, or if you're willing to sacrifice a little eye candy for a very efficient emulator -- go with pSX. Just steer clear of version 1.11 if you have an older Athlon PC.

You can also simply use Peops Soft GPU which is CPU dependand and let it run at a resolution of 640x480 with no filters which produces the same effect. Except for the OGL2 Plugin the others are not very resource hungry either, i used to emulate on a mid range laptop without any problems.
