Final Fantasy Tactics iso editing?

i have a copy of fft and i also have some handy tools that allow me to
extract and also insert sprites in the game
yep i have been able to draw new characters or at least change their colors
if i want to. but theres something i would really love to be able to do
and thats change, within the file itself, a few stats of some of the characters

for example: Balmafula the arc witch, doesnt have a primary skillset right?
id like to be able to swap the empty space for a pre existing one say "night magic" for example but not with a gameshark or pec, i mean actually change
it permenantly in the file. however i know nothing of hex editing or any of that
all i really know on my own is how to draw 2d gfx and use the game shark codes.

im wondering if anyone who sees this might be able to assist me, i have no idea where to start, but i was hoping that with a hex editor, the gameshark codes that edit the char stats would at least help me find the values i need to change.

everything i want to alter can be done with the gameshark, however i would very much like to apply the changes permenantly. so if anyone can at least point me in the right direction, im new to this stuff...

Hello mr Zozma, hopefully you have email notification for this thread.

Which programs did you use to pull sprites from FFT? I've been using PSicture and can only get a few dozen pictures not related to characters themselves. Mostly cutscene backrounds and some of the cutscene texts.

As for hex editing, if you are still interested, you have to look at the path of execution (using a debugger) to see which files are being called. So when you've found which files store the hex values you want to change, you can do them directly. I've only done it with PC software before, so it might be harder to find a debugging software that can handle playstation execution format, especially since debugging flags are most likely not compiled into the executables.

For Windows and Linux binaries I use IDA Pro debugger which is very awesome.

Also, were you able to grab animation sequences? I have a Bink video player (from Bink Downloads) but I don't think that the .bin files are for the bink format that some other PSX games use.

Anyone else who has ripped sprites / images from FFT I invite your input!

oh wow i posted this a long time ago huh? well check out this site
i don't think you'll be dissapointed.

http://www.auritech.eu

with their program comes a complete sprite editor and also things that will allow you to extract them/ put them back in.
the only thing id like to find now is where the hex values that determine which menu sprite is displayed since they are not part of the battle sprite... sigh
