What's the catch?

I've been so frustrated trying to play Final Fantasy 9 on EpsxE, because I was playing it on 320x240 res, with barely any special features on, and it worked. . .I was playing and happy with it, EVEN THOUGH it still skipped and the sound would skip and it was ok (took me a long time to decide what plugins were the best for me). . .but then I found the connectix virtual game station thing and whoa. . .I'm playing it on the 1152x864 setting and I know there's no texture enhancement or anything, but it's still playing so smooth, and it leaves me wondering. . .WHAT'S THE CATCH? Is it gonna break my computer forever?
Are goblins gonna physically materialize out of my pc and slit my throat in my sleep?
Will it make my children wet the bed(if I ever have kids)?
Am I gonna come in from a hard days work and find blood dripping from the ceiling?
Am I gonna wake up from a late night deep sleep to get a snack and find that my kitchen has been raided and emptied?

Is it gonna give me explosive diarrhea?

I'm not asking how or why. . .I'm just wondering what's the catch?

Any additional patches or information would be greatly appreciated. . .but I'm searching Aldo's tools anyway to find anything that can help me out. . .thanks in advance. . .

By the way. . .my computer is crap. . .32mb integrated video, 128 mb ram, dell dimension 2350. . .

Well, for one thing, you have an unusually twisted, but unique sense of humour...a bit dark, but not bad.

But, concerning Connectix VGS, it is a good emulator; especially for its time. Although, for todays abilities/standards, if you do not wish for a plugin-based system then I would direct you to pSX Emulator v1.6 - http://psxemulator.gazaxian.com.

The catch is; Connectix had some damn good programmers. ...but selling it wasn't their strongest point.

For more info on Connectix VGS related stuff, check out http://www.aldostools.com/vgshighres.html

Good luck, and enjoy.

Thanks, man. . .I like chimaira by the way. . .and anything else that sounds like tons of metal garbage cans with people alive in them being crushed. . .I'm not being sarcastic either, I'm serious. . . and it's pretty damn hard to try to sell any software nowadays, because anything and everything can be cracked, patched, ripped, and all that jazz. . .that was a fast reply, BTW, thanks. . .

*edit 1*
Also. . .just a minor thing. . .but I'm using a backup of FF9 to free up my disk drive and keep my disks safe in storage, but while I'm playing, if I use magic or some kind of special move or a monster attacks with a special move, the game will stutter (as the animation is loading, I suspect, not while it's executing ) for a few seconds, but then resume just as smooth as ever. . . I'm wondering if it's because I mounted the image with alcohol instead of daemon tools, does it do that when anyone tries to play FF9, or is it because my computer is crap? Would it work better if I used the real disks or will it still be the same? *goes to test the real disk*

*edit 2*
I fixed the skipping. . .and you're not going to believe how. . .I have to turn the resolution up to the maximum. . .how freakin sweet is that? I know it's not really that resolution but it seems a little clearer. . .I can see the jaggedness and pixelation waaaaaaay better
I know I must sound like a tardo, but god I love this emulator. . .I love the way it looks more like real playstation graphics than all the other emulators. . and the gameplay is so freakin smooth. . .it hasn't pissed me off yet like EpsxE. . .I know I'd like EpsxE way more if I had the hardware to fully enjoy it . . . but for now this is the best for me. . .I will be definitely be giving lots of my money to the people who made VGS. . .

if you think VGS rocks, you should try pSX. you'll crap yourself. the ease and simplicity of emulators of VGS and Bleem, and its being worked on all the time. in fact, there was a new release today!

Yeah, I'm testing all, my on pSX for a while now, and its a fantastic emulator IMHO. It has a great compatibility already and some games plays better than EPSXE too (like Valkyrie Profile).

And I agree that they may have taken some tricks from VGS. Even some of the bugs are the same!

Yup. . .I switched to Psx 1.7. . .great emulator *craps pants 200 times*

I can even turn the graphics up as high as they'll go . . . I wish It would remember the windowed screen size though. . .but it doesn't matter because it skips a lot in windowed mode no matter how small I make it. . .but full screen the gameplay is so freakin smooth it's amazing. . .every game plays better than on EpsxE for me. . . . . it's crazy but I couldn't get this emulator to work at all when I tried 1.6 a long time ago but then when I found VGS and I tried PsxEmulator I just somehow did it. . .maybe it was so simple that it just threw me off. . .I hate when that happens. . .

Wonder what games don't work? Maybe now I can finally play Chrono Cross. . .

Did you turned frameskip off?? I really recomend.

Anyway, I did finished Chrono Cross on pSX, so don't worry. There's only one small bug on a place where you can't see what happens on a room (I don't remember the place), but its not hard to get past that part anyway. Other than that, the game works great.

Don't worry too much about compatibility. pSX is already very compatible, and even makes some games work better than the real console. If you want, you can check the pSX forum to see if a game is compatible or not ( http://psxemulator.proboards54.com/index.cgi ). There's even a compatibility list there (even though its a bit old, specially since the new version of pSX has a better compatibility than the older ones).

Sorry about that. What can I say, I like sandwiches.

Your excitement reminds me of when I found ePSXe in 2003. I was totally and utterly amazed by it. And that was with a MX440.

Talking Me and my girlfriend too

The only reason I started trying to do playstation emulation in the first place is because my girlfriend had a bunch of playstation games she couldn't play because her youngest daughter broke the thing that holds the disk in the playstation. . .

and I started researching, studying hard, and testing and pulling my hair out until one day I put in Tomba! and she freaked out and wouldn't even let me tweak it to get everything just right before she started playing. . .it was a great day for out relationship. . .lol
