ps1 games played on ps2. what changes?

see topic title.
obviously, i'm bloody new to this. i don't even have ever had a psx or ps2.
but i'm interested in psx/ps2 emulation.

i've heard that ps1 games look much better and have an overall nicer handling feel when run on a ps2.
is that true?
are there other changes?

They feel basically the same on the PS2. There is a few options in the BIOS to make PSX games look nicer, but they really don't work.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think it comes down to bilinear filtering and faster load times when these options are selected.

That's what you would think, but honestly I have never noticed a difference. The disc read speed is noticable, but the textures are not improved. And I spent a good few hours comparing games to be sure when I first got my PS2.

can you emulate ps1 games with a ps2 emulator and get better results than with a dedicated ps1 emulator?

True. WTF would you want to even attempt that anyways when ePSXe works so well.

FrostyTheSnowman: when i first got my PS2, i was excited to try, and i tried several games and definitely noticed an enhancement. games with a lot of polygons like MGS or Vagrant Story really see the benefit. go ahead industrian, use that new tv card to show us

posix: the PS1 on PS2 emulator debate has shown up a million times. its useless, because there are a bunch of good PSX emulators that do the same job, but better.

I did an experiment with my new TV card, component-in, Dscaler and MGS...

Lets just say that I'm sticking with ePSXe.

Unless your incredibly anal, most people don't notice a difference. Especially on a standard TV.

okay guys. thank you. i was just being curious.

another question.
i see epsxe supports savestates. does it also support input recording?
anyone know the arcade emulator "winkawaks". like many others, you can record your own gameplay in it. the emulator saves a state when you start recording and then adds your input commands to a *.rec file.
is there any psx emulator that can do this?
i need this for capturing gameplay to video reasons because you can most strikingly improve the quality when capturing digitally from your computer.

I think there is with the P.E.OpS Software GPU plugin.
Otherwise you have to stick to FRAPS.

i have a crappy 20" Sony TV from the late 90s (built in VCR, woot!). i can definitely tell the difference.

loadtimes are a bit better for games like Thrasher Skate and Destroy which have a lot of loading.

Okay, okay. Left and right, I seem to be wrong. It's up to you to use it or not, but I just think sony could've done ALOT better on the texture enhancement.

I have the same tv, and I notice a huge differnce in games that don't have problems with the options. Brave fencer is one of the best. Load times are much nicer with something like NFS3

I think sony did a fine job for the time, just something simple to add. A little update to say the least.

Question. It renders games in 16bit color correct? Since at the time 32 wasn't supported in full 3D?

The PSX console run games at 16-bit color, while it plays movies in 24 bit color mode.

There is no big difference. Nevertheless, i dont want a ps2. So i just bought myself a psone, and i play my psx games on psone , as well with the pc.

If you want to see a big difference in psx games, just play them on your computer.
