Save states=potential DEMOS?

Recently on our NGEMU site there have been discussion about "SAVE STATES" being used as potential "DEMOS" for some of the psx games played on epsxe.(See this thread http://www.ngemu.com/forums/showthre...&threadid=5374 . )All those who are interested in this can write in this thread about all games where save states can have DECENT value as a potential DEMO of the game. You can also vote above if you want.
Ok I was the first person to post about it so I will start. Only those games where its worth talking are given.

Game--- Winning Eleven 4
Save done--- First In Game menu
Performance--- All features except formations work, One whole match(incuding both halfs can be played).

Game--- Brian Lara Cricket
Save done--- Just before the first ball is bowled
Performance--- One innings can be played completely

Game--- Carmageddon
Save done--- When countdown for race begins
Performance--- One whole stage can be played

Game--- Metal Gear VR missions
Save done--- New mission starts
Performance--- One mission can be completed

Game--- Metal Gear Solid
Save done---(1)Right at start(snake comes out of water) (2)Snake comes out of first elevator
Performance---(1)Can get inside the elevator (2)Can get inside the building[cant press select]

Game--- Tomb Raider 4
Save done--- Right at start
Performance--- All I can say is its Very good.

Game--- Silent hill
Save done--- Various places
Performance--- Not as good, cant open the doors but sound effects are perfect

I would love to test it with racing games like driver, ridge racer, graun taurismo, need for speed .formula 1etc and also with sports games like fifa ,nba , nhl etc. because I think it may work well with these, but I dont have these games right now.

dunno....too short for a good evaluation of a game IMO. i mean, if i were using savestates to check whether i decide to buy a game or not, it's not enough to make an informed decision.

I still remember those 2 minutes and 5 minutes demos of FIFA games and many racing game demos where you are allowed to complete just one circuit or one lap.(And still they sometimes take up 20-30 mb or may be greater space). If the save states are not better then them still they are nor worse. As far as psx demos goes, those available on net (I guess they are very legal) mostly shows a dancing doll or some 3d effect with music so save states will always be better.
Ok now I will try to get some more games and test them in few days time.

Could be a risky venture. Some oldergames might be completly stored on the save state.

Few more games tested .Its very clear now that its very much like taking out the cd from your playstation once the game is loaded.

So sports games save states will have very good and long game play.Similarly games with very long levels also work well(mostly whole level is loaded in save state). Its for sure that there will be no cdda sound but you can make the graphics quality as good as your card allows. May also be good for taking screenshots.

AS mentioned by Betamax some older games which need to just load once at the start will be completely saved in the save state.

One thing I still cant get is how come the pc demos look so larger in size when compared to epsxe savestates.Take for example one of my favourite games "Brian Lara Cricket" .As mentioned above using epsxe save state you can play one whole innings(and most sound effects are also there) in its 1.5mb size while pc demo of the same game allows just 3 overs game play in 27mb size.

I think it would be a good idea just to see how a certain game would run on your particular system, but not to evaluate if the game was good or bad.. I have played psx games and then put in my music cd.. Listening to my own music while playing a game.. Of course I would have to put the psx cd back in when it needed to load something..

Hi again,
Just wanted this thread to be a little revisited.
New info, I wanted to add that I emailed one of my savestates to one of my friends and he just couldnt believe that he can play the whole soccer match(world eleven 4) with all sound effects(except commentary) and all camera angles and options(except formations)without having the actual cd in a 1.5 mb file.
*This is the first time I tried it on a different computer and it worked great*

Its not a very good idea to reopen very old threads but since so many new people have joined the threads and nowadays savestates are being extensively used both by emu/plugin authors as well as members here so reopened this thread to get some views.
And yes all those who can send save states to me,you are most welcome.
