Most likely. Try a different CD plugin, or try running from an ISO

You have to be more specific with what settings you have tried for the cd and/or iso plugins and what video plugins. edit : Have a look at Kane-Sama's site. It has the configs proven to make this game work. http://www.lordkane.co.uk/epsxeconfigs.php |

Have you tried running from an ISO? Is your CD itself scratched?

Hmm my gut tells me it's a damaged cd. Apart from kanes suggestion of making an iso from it, there's probably not much else to try. If you want you could also try the latest beta of my frontend, Delta. It attempts to setup ff9 correctly for you. I'd appreciate any feedback you have as well

This is a more common problem, I have it too. I already know for sure that it doesn't have anything to do with scratched CD's, nor with ePSXe. Let me explain: I first got FF9 the illegal way (sorry for that ), by simply downloading all four ISOs using a certain P2P sharing program. The game ran fine then, no problems at all. Understandably, while I was still busy on the earlier discs, I burned the ISOs of the last couple of discs to CD-Rs, to save some valuable HD space. I would be able to recreate the ISOs from those CDs when I'd get to the later discs. So when I finally got to CD 4, and made a new ISO from the CD I had burned, the problems began: Ugly green and purple artifacts in the FMV's, and some FMV's even broke off halfway through. The game itself was fine, just the FMV's were totally screwed up. So I figured I'd just watch those FMV's using PSMPlay. But the problems were there too, worse even. So that ruled out the possibility of ePSXe being the troublemaker. Making those ISOs at a lower reading speed got rid of those artifacts, but the FMVs still weren't perfect: The sound would skip now and then, or go out of sync. Not as bad as those artifacts, but still quite annoying. Nevertheless, I finished the game, and as a loyal FF fan, I also got the US version of the game legally later on. Having new, pristine and virginal CDs would also fix those nasty FMV problems, I figured. I figured wrong. Still the same FMV problems. Whether I make ISOs or play straight from the CD, slow down the reading speed or speed it up, read subchannels or not, the sound on those FMVs still skips and gets out of sync. I've tried making ISOs on at least 4 different CD/DVD players on varying speeds with countless different ISO creation tools, but all with the same results. The problem isn't with the CD's, they're absolutely not scratched. I got the game new, and I've hardly ever used those CD's, except to make ISOs every once in a while. Well, I've tried everything I can, but I'm still left clueless. Other games always work fine when I make ISOs of them, only FF9 has this weird problem, and it's only the FMVs that are problematic. I really wonder how the hell those proper ISOs that I downloaded a long time ago (but that I obviously don't have on my HD anymore) were made. I just don't seem to be able to pull it off. |

downloading ISO is ratherly pointless if you have a friend who has the game just birrow it make an ISO image of it using ISObuster or other ISO software (not encouraging piracy...) and ive also expierienced this problem on FF9 (worse is it hangs up on the ending FMV!) all i did was use EPSXEcutor... just savestate the part before the problem occurs then exit, run espxecutor then try some stuffs in there its just the a matter of TRIAL AND ERROR

It almost has to have something to do with the way those FF9 ISOs are made. For some reason something is probably not read properly from the CDs, but it's still strange that it affects only FMVs then, and only in FF9. That's also why I've tried making ISOs on different computers using different CD/DVD readers/writers, with different software packages on different settings. But I still haven't found the answer to the problem. |
